Wahl promoted to role as Rebels’ closer

As it turns out Bobby Wahl’s appearance at the end of Sunday’s victory was somewhat of a tryout.

Sunday’s ninth inning performance wasn’t a save situation, but with Jake Morgan’s future still uncertain and the struggles of Brett Huber at the end of games, Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco wanted to see how the Virginia native could handle pitching at the end of games. Ole Miss tangles with No. 20 USM tonight

The Ole Miss Diamond Rebels will step away from their Southeastern Conference schedule tonight to face the red-hot No. 20 Southern Miss Golden Eagles in Hattiesburg.

Over their last four games, USM (18-5 overall) is averaging 14.5 runs per game and scored 43 in its three-game series victory against Tulane last weekend. (March 30, 2011, Page 6)
