Rebels headed to Lone Star State
When the Ole Miss Rebels left Hoover, Ala., last week after a 1-2 showing in the Southeastern Conference Tournament, the coaches and players — at least publicly —believed their resume was strong enough to get them into the NCAA Tournament.
Monday, their instincts were re-affirmed when Ole Miss saw its name appear on the Road to Omaha announcement show as a three-seed in the College Station (Texas) Regional. (May 29, 2012, Page 8)

Rebels expect to be in field of 64 on Monday
HOOVER, Ala. — Asked how he felt the Rebels looked heading into Monday’s selection show, junior Alex Yarbrough replied as if Ole Miss’ inclusion into the field of 64 was a foregone conclusion, instead addressing the team’s offense as the team prepares to play in the NCAA Tournament.
One day after saying the Rebels’ resume was “pretty gosh darn good,” Rebel coach Mike Bianco also talked as if the Rebels would almost assuredly be in the tournament. (more…) (May 25, 2012, Page 6A)
Offense fails Rebels in SEC opener
HOOVER, Ala. — A.J. Reed didn’t just do a little of everything for Kentucky on Tuesday.
The southpaw shut out Ole Miss for 5.1 innings in the opening game of the Southeastern Conference Tournament at Regions Park.
And then, as if that wasn’t enough, the freshman also went 4-for-4 at the plate with three singles and a solo home run in the fourth inning that proved to be the difference in the 2-0 Kentucky victory. (May 23, 2012, Page 5A)

Well-rested Rebels have important games remaining
Most projections have the Diamond Rebels safely in the Southeastern Conference Tournament in Hoover, Ala., and in the NCAA Tournament, but for those forecasts to come to fruition, Ole Miss still needs to take care of business.
After having a blank mid-week slate this week due to exams, the Rebels return to action today to host Tennessee in a best-of-three series at Oxford-University Stadium.
First pitch tonight is set for 6:30, while Saturday is set for a 4 p.m. start and Sunday’s game will start at 1:30 p.m. (May 11, 2012, Page 6A)
No. 4 LSU blasts No. 24 Rebels to win series
It appears the Rebels aren’t done searching for a Sunday starter.
After splitting the first two games against No. 4 LSU, the No. 24 Rebels turned to a new starter Sunday for the third consecutive week.
Not only did Dylan Chavez get run from the game prematurely, but Ole Miss struggled to find any pitcher who could consistently put up zeros during the 12-3 loss at Oxford-University Stadium. (May 7, 2012, Page 6)
OM’s Laxer unleashes on USM
PEARL — Josh Laxer looked like a completely different pitcher Tuesday.
Prior to Tuesday’s game, Ole Miss pitching coach Carl Lafferty sat the former Madison Central product down to have a talk.
The freshman had not had the ideal start to his collegiate career, allowing 10 earned runs and five walks in 16.1 innings.
Lafferty told Laxer to let loose. Remember how you pitched for the Jaguars, Lafferty asked. Pitch like that. (May 2, 2012, Page 6)
