Team Snyder slugs way to Game 1 win

The Chicago Cubs have been making headlines recently for their hiring of former Boston Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein, the architect of Boston’s two World Series championship teams.

What went largely unnoticed amongst national headlines was the job Ole Miss senior first baseman Matt Snyder did assembling the Red team’s roster for the annual best-of-three Pizza Bowl series that began on Wednesday.

After skillfully piecing together his team through Monday’s draft, the Red squad rolled past the Blue 10-4 on Wednesday at Oxford-University Stadium. (October 27, 2011, Page 7)

Snyder, Rebs rout Austin Peay to earn sweep

Ole Miss didn’t fool around on Wednesday.

After surrendering two runs in the top of the first inning, the No. 28 Diamond Rebels responded with six runs in the bottom of the frame and never relented, topping the Austin Peay Governors 11-3 at Oxford-University Stadium to complete the two-game sweep. (March 3, 2011, Page 6)

OM Diamond Rebels begin work for season

Swinging the new BBCOR (ball-bat coefficient of restitution) bats that have been implemented by the NCAA for the 2011 season, the Ole Miss baseball squad officially got started on the practice field on Friday.

On Saturday and Sunday, it was the pitching staff that appeared to get the best of the batters in two intrasquad scrimmages as a total of 10 runs were scored during the two games. (January 31, 2011, Page 6)
