Oxford, LHS take part in annual event at Country Club

Oxford High’s annual invitational golf tournament at The Country Club of Oxford overcame wet weather at the start of the week to host eight boys teams and seven girls teams Tuesday. (April 9, 2014, Page 4B)

– Ben Hubbard made a hole-in-one at the recent Oxford Lady Charger Softball Benefit golf tourney played at the Country Club of Oxford

– ESPN announced Monday it plans to televise Ole Miss basketball games against Kentucky and Oregon this season.

– Ole Miss has promoted Lady Rebel assistant tennis coach Jason Ontog to associate head coach.

Chargers take 2-5A title

Oxford’s goal of repeating as MHSAA Class 5A state champions in boys golf began with a promising start Monday at the Ole Miss Golf Course. The Chargers won the District 2-5A tournament with a final score of 326, 16 strokes better than Hernando’s 342. Center Hill was third in the meet with a 364. All three teams qualified to compete in next month’s 5A state tournament, which will be hosted at Ole Miss.

Oxford golfers start season at New Albany

Oxford’s golf season got underway at New Albany Tuesday. Junior Turner Arnold tied with teammate Peyton Dunlap for the medalist award at the first meet with a round of 37. Sophomore Ethan Holmes followed with a 42, senior John Graeber shot a 43, sophomore Carlton Roberson shot a 44, sophomore Ben Hubbard finished with a 45, junior Ward Toler shot a 46, senior Taylor Harris shot a 47, Bo Ryals, a seventh-grader, shot a 49, while sophomore Taylor Daniels rounded out the scores with a 52. (March 1, 2012, Page 7)

LMS rallies to beat OMS in baseball

Lafayette’s middle school baseball team rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the fourth inning to post a 5-3 win over Oxford Wednesday night at W.V. Brewer Field. The Commodores and Chargers tied in the second game 3-3. (March 25, 2010, Page 7)

Oxford wins one of two in Water Valley

Oxford’s middle school baseball team won the first game of a middle school doubleheader with Water Valley 11-0 Monday evening. The two teams tied the second game 4-4. (March 9, 2010, Page 10)

LMS-OMS split opening day double-dip

MIDDLE SCHOOL BASEBALL — Oxford and Lafayette split a pair of middle school baseball games at Edwin Moak Field on Monday to open the season for both teams. The Chargers won the first game of the double-header 6-5, while Lafayette won the nightcap 10-2. (March 2, 2010, Page 9)
