One of the biggest questions surrounding the Ole Miss football team heading into the 2011 season was which of the three quarterbacks on scholarship would become the starter for the season opener against BYU on Sept. 3.

While news of freshman cornerback Senquez Golson negotiating with the Boston Red Sox dominated discussion following Ole Miss’ first scrimmage of the preseason, there was actually football played at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
The quarterbacks have had an up and down week of practice and didn’t buck that trend on Saturday.
Of the three vying for the starting job, only Zack Stoudt threw a touchdown pass (a 25-yard pass to freshman receiver Donte Moncrief in single coverage).

Following Ole Miss’ first practice in shoulder pads, Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt said he was impressed with how his linemen pushed up the field, especially on the ends where four players were credited with getting good pressure on quarterbacks Barry Brunetti, Randall Mackey and Zack Stoudt. After missing most of the 2010 season with a torn ACL, Lockett was granted a sixth year of eligibility this past spring by the NCAA.
