As of right now the Diamond Rebels are in a neck-and-neck race with a slew of other Southeastern Conference foes for the right to play in the conference’s eight-team tournament in Hoover, Ala. at the end of the year.
That tournament also means admission into the NCAA Tournament, which is why this weekend’s series at Auburn should take on added meaning.

When Brett Huber struck out Kentucky catcher Luke Maile to preserve the 6-5 victory at Oxford-University Stadium on Sunday, the Rebels found themselves in unfamiliar territory — with a Southeastern Conference sweep, the first for the team since taking three games in Starkville last season.
It’s a feeling the Rebels sound like they could get used to, as the win puts them in a three-way tie with Alabama and Arkansas for first in the SEC West and fifth overall. (April 18, 2011, Page 1B)

Ole Miss’ Austin Wright turned in a solid performance on the mound Sunday and the offense kicked into gear as Rebels shut out Tennessee 8-0 to claim the three-game series. Despite what Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco considered an improved day at the plate on Sunday, the Rebels were unable to claim their first Southeastern Conference series of the season, falling to Alabama 6-4.
