Chargers capture Class 5A cross-country title

All season the Oxford High boys cross-country team has shown through its strong times that it was one of the best teams in the state of Mississippi. On Saturday, with the best runners assembled at the MHSAA Class 5A state meet in Clinton, the Chargers punctuated an already fabulous season by winning the overall title. The victory garnered the Chargers their fourth overall state title and first since 1998 and finished the year ranked as the third overall program in the state behind Tupelo and Ocean Springs. Oxford teams shine in Division 2-5A meet

Led by outstanding individual efforts from Sam Kendricks, Justin Fondren and Kristen Dickerson, the Oxford boys and girls track teams easily won the Division 2-5A meet at Oxford’s Bobby Holcomb Field on Saturday.

The Chargers totaled 150 points, 112 more than second-place finisher West Point. New Hope was third in the boys meet with 31 points, while Saltillo finished fourth with 23. The Lady Chargers finished with 133 points, more than double second-place finisher New Hope with 66. Saltillo was third with 24, while West Point was fourth with 16. (April 25, 2011, Page 1B)

OHS cross country fares well at MC Invitational

Despite several runners being absent, the Oxford cross country team was still able to fare well at the Mississippi College Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.

While the varsity boys placed ninth and the girls placed 11th, the junior varsity boys took fifth place and the JV girls placed eighth. (October 11, 2010, Page 3B)

OHS varsity teams fare well at Mississippi State HS meet

Oxford’s boys and girls cross country teams competed in the MSU High School Invitational meet held Saturday. Both teams finished fifth overall.

The Chargers were led by Lucien Duchaine who finished ninth overall with a time of 18 minutes, 11 seconds. Marcus Barnes was 16th with a 19:06, Kevin Clancy was 25th with a 19:31, while Wilson Gardner rounded out the finishers with a 35th-place finish (20:03). Oxford teams perform well

Oxford’s girls and boys cross country teams both finished third in recent action at the Delta State Invitational.

The Lady Chargers were third out of 13 teams in the event, finishing behind Tupelo at Arlington, Tenn. (September 15, 2010, Page 8)

OHS teams win EAGLE Invitational

Oxford’s depth on both the girls and boys teams was evident Saturday at the annual EAGLE Invitational held at Bobby Holcomb Field.
