Rebels scratch out 1-0 win on Opening Day

VIDEO BLOG: Baseball season is finally upon us.

With temperatures hovering in the low 50s and dipping into the 40s, the No. 13 Ole Miss baseball team will kick off the 2013 season with a familiar foe in the No. 14 TCU Horned Frogs.

First pitch today is set for 4 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday’s games are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and noon starts.

Gatlin injury update; Diamond Rebs on TV nine times

BLOG: The timetable for John Gatlin‘s return from injury is unclear at the moment.

The senior infielder injured his left shoulder earlier this week while diving for a ball during batting practice and is scheduled to have an MRI next week. (more…)

Several Rebs held out of first intrasquad

The Ole Miss baseball had a laundry list of who’s who being held out from this past weekend’s first intrasquad action.

Starting pitchers Bobby Wahl and Mike Mayers are being held out to rest after they each saw extensive time this summer pitching for Team USA and in the Cape Cod league respectively. (more…) (September 18, 2012, Page 7)

Rebels headed to Lone Star State

When the Ole Miss Rebels left Hoover, Ala., last week after a 1-2 showing in the Southeastern Conference Tournament, the coaches and players — at least publicly —believed their resume was strong enough to get them into the NCAA Tournament.

Monday, their instincts were re-affirmed when Ole Miss saw its name appear on the Road to Omaha announcement show as a three-seed in the College Station (Texas) Regional. (May 29, 2012, Page 8)

Rebels expect to be in field of 64 on Monday

HOOVER, Ala. — Asked how he felt the Rebels looked heading into Monday’s selection show, junior Alex Yarbrough replied as if Ole Miss’ inclusion into the field of 64 was a foregone conclusion, instead addressing the team’s offense as the team prepares to play in the NCAA Tournament.

One day after saying the Rebels’ resume was “pretty gosh darn good,” Rebel coach Mike Bianco also talked as if the Rebels would almost assuredly be in the tournament. (more…) (May 25, 2012, Page 6A)

No. 9 Rebels eliminated from SEC Tournament by top-seeded LSU

BLOG: Hello again from Regions Park in Hoover, Ala., the site of the 2012 Southeastern Conference Tournament.

After losing to Kentucky 2-0 in their opener, the Ole Miss turned around and defeated Arkansas and preseason SEC Pitcher of the Year D.J. Baxendale 2-0 on Wednesday thanks in large part to the pitching efforts of Mike Mayers and Brett Huber.

Today, the Rebels will face one of the top pitchers in the country when they face off with LSU and right-handed junior Kevin Gausman at 9:30 a.m.

Red Wolves jump all over No. 25 Rebels

JONESBORO, Ark. — Zach Kirksey hit his 13th home run of the season, a two-run shot to give the No. 25 Ole Miss Rebels the early lead, but a big fifth inning from the Red Wolves proved to be too much to overcome as the Rebels lost 10-5 to Arkansas State. Ole Miss fell to 34-19 with the loss, while ASU improved to 29-21. (May 16, 2012, Page 6)

Rebs blast through lull, top Tennessee 7-4 in 11 innings

BLOG: Under an overcast — but dry — sky the Ole Miss Rebels will look to jump ahead 2-0 in their series against Tennessee today at Oxford-University Stadium.
