Lady ‘Dore powerlifters looking for strong opener

Depth and experience are two of the many reasons Lafayette girls powerlifting coach Sandra Smith feels good about her team heading into the start of the 2013 season. Lady ‘Dores gain steam in win at WV

WATER VALLEY — Monday’s volleyball match was definitely a struggle for the Water Valley Lady Blue Devils and the visiting Lafayette Lady Commodores.

Early on, both squads struggled to serve consistently and make the basic plays necessary to build a lead.

As the match progressed, however, Lafayette made the necessary adjustments to claim a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-11) victory at Water Valley. (August 28, 2012, Page 7)

Carter, Clay lead powerful Lady ‘Dores

Lafayette girls powerlifting coach Sandra Smith said she remembers when she asked Cate Clay to become a member of the Lady Commodores. Smith, a veteran powerlifting coach and former cheerleading sponsor at LHS, knew she needed a lifter in the 97 pound weight class and Clay fit the bill.

The only thing Smith didn’t realize when she recruited the petite but powerful Clay was just how outstanding she could become in a sport that the Lady Commodores have become quite good at overall. (April 12, 2012, Page 6)
