“Potential” is a word Oxford volleyball coach Tara Ross used several times to describe her 2013 team. As the Lady Chargers head into their season opener against Lewisburg in Jackson today, Ross has seen signs that the team will be competitive this year.
The 2012 season didn’t go the way Oxford had hoped, but Thursday night’s season finale provided at least a little solace for the home team.

There were several nervous moments for Oxford High volleyball coach Tara Ross in the Lafayette gym Thursday night. In a match that was decided on errors made by both teams as much as it was outstanding plays turned in, Ross knew that if her team focused better they had a shot at recovering from an early 2-1 deficit and earning a win over LHS. It wasn’t pretty, but the Lady Chargers volleyball team rallied from an early deficit to defeat Senatobia 3-2 (18-25, 24-26, 25-10, 25-19, 15-12) on Tuesday.
Emily Mims had a team-high 12 kills, while Anna Katherine Kessinger and Sara Mims each contributed 11 kills to the cause. Setter Jessica Pearson also led OHS with 40 assists. Next up for Oxford is a crosstown showdown at Lafayette on Thursday starting with a junior varsity match at 4 p.m. (August 15, 2012, Page 7)
