Oxford teams win Region 1-5A titles

Region 1-5A track titles were awarded to both the Oxford Chargers and Lady Chargers Monday night at Bobby Holcomb Field. The Chargers defeated Center Hill to capture the title thanks to a point total of 196, while the Lady Chargers almost doubled New Hope (185-96) to win their title.  (more…) (April 30, 2013, Page 8)

Oxford dominates 2-5A meet

“Dominant.” That’s what the Oxford Chargers and Lady Chargers were in the Division 2-5A track meet held Friday at Bobby Holcomb Field. Both teams finished first in the annual meet, with the Chargers scoring 122 points, almost double second-place finisher West Point with 64. Lady Chargers win Region 1-5A title

Dominant is what the Oxford Lady Chargers were Saturday in the Region 1-5A meet held at Oxford’s Bobby Holcomb Field. Oxford finished first in the meet with 212 points, almost 100 more than second-place finisher Center Hill (117). The Lady Chargers also finished with seven first-place finishes and a bevy of seconds to earn the title. First-place finishes garner 10 points, while second-place finishes garner eight. Oxford teams roll to division titles

Rainy conditions at Bobby Holcomb Field on Tuesday were only able to slow, not stop, the Oxford Chargers and Lady Chargers in the annual Division 2-5A meet. Both teams won the respective team titles despite the weather that slowed the track for running events. (more…) (April 18, 2012, Page 8)

Depth, talent allows Oxford to shine in latest meet

PEARL — Five minutes was all the time Oxford girls track coach Jamie Perkins gave Ann Houston to prepare herself to run in the 4×400 meter relay on Friday at the MHSAA Class 5A state meet held at Pearl High School.

After spending the entire day supporting her teammates and watching the Lady Chargers pile up the points and a lead at the annual meet from behind the fence that surrounds Pearl’s track, Houston said she was surprised to find out Perkins had chosen her over Meredith Sanford to run in the final event that would seal a second straight title for the Lady Chargers. (May 16, 2011, Page 1B)

Lady Chargers win 5A track title

Oxford teams shine in Division 2-5A meet

Led by outstanding individual efforts from Sam Kendricks, Justin Fondren and Kristen Dickerson, the Oxford boys and girls track teams easily won the Division 2-5A meet at Oxford’s Bobby Holcomb Field on Saturday.

The Chargers totaled 150 points, 112 more than second-place finisher West Point. New Hope was third in the boys meet with 31 points, while Saltillo finished fourth with 23. The Lady Chargers finished with 133 points, more than double second-place finisher New Hope with 66. Saltillo was third with 24, while West Point was fourth with 16. (April 25, 2011, Page 1B)

Kendricks has high expectations for squad

Saturday’s weather forecast of sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 60s was a pleasing one for Scott Kendricks. The long-time Oxford High track coach has been waiting for the weather to clear and get warmer so that his team, and the defending Class 5A state champion Lady Chargers coached by Jamie Perkins, can get out and show what they can do.
