No. 3 Lions hold off No. 5 Rangers
SCOOBA — One play is all that separated the No. 5 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers from a victory over No. 3 East Mississippi in Thursday night’s MACJC North Division title game at Sullivan-Windham Field. In a game where both defenses gave up a combined 1,281 yards, it was the Lions that remained undefeated on the season with a 56-49 win over the Rangers. (October 19, 2012, Page 6A)
Holmes C.C. WR considering Rebels
It was obvious who the most dangerous player was on the Holmes Community College offense during Thursday night’s game with No. 6 Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia. It was clear to NWCC defensive coordinator Andy Greening when he watched film of the Bulldogs what a 6-foot-5, 210-pound wide receiver named Jonathan Rumph could do if he got loose in the secondary. As much as Greening doesn’t like to give up yards rushing, he felt like it was better to give up a few extra yards on a zone running play compared to a 75-yard reception to the speedster originally from South Carolina.
Greening’s plan of double covering Rumph, a rare talent that has both speed and size, worked well in the sense that he didn’t catch a touchdown pass in the Rangers’ 32-20 win over Holmes. The double team still didn’t completely work as Rumph still lead the Bulldogs with seven receptions for 63 yards. (October 15, 2012, Page 4B)

No. 4 NWCC dominates No. 20 ICC
SENATOBIA — A near perfect performance in all three phases fueled the No. 4 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers to a 49-7 thrashing of No. 20 Itawamba on Thursday night at Bobby Franklin Field. In a game that featured several former area players on both sides of the field, it was the Rangers that really showed they were worthy of their national ranking. (September 28, 2012, Page 6A)
LaVelle leads Rangers past rival Tigers
BOONEVILLE — Andy Greening, the veteran defensive coordinator for the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers, had a feeling his squad would rise to the occasion and win the game over rival Northeast Thursday night at Tiger Stadium.
On a night when the normally potent NWCC offense struggled to consistently move the ball, the Rangers defense, led by some great individual plays of linebacker Desmond LaVelle, were more than enough to help the Rangers secure a 19-13 win over the Tigers. (September 21, 2012, Page 6A)

Moore ends NWCC’s playoffs early
One of the most successful seasons for the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers and head coach Ricky Woods came to an unfortunate end Saturday in the first round of the MACJC state football playoffs.
No. 12 Gulf Coast, led by the passing of former Ole Miss walk-on quarterback Clayton Moore, defeated the No. 4 Rangers 52-24 in front of a crowd of 1,452 fans at Bobby Franklin Field. The Bulldogs (8-2 overall), who will now square off against Copiah-Lincoln for the MACJC state title next week, scored early and often against the Rangers (9-1), who entered the game with just four defensive linemen to try and stop one of the best offenses in all of the junior college ranks. Rangers’ D paces team in latest win
Another strong defensive effort proved to be the difference in a win for the No. 7 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers on Thursday night at Bobby Franklin Field.
NWCC defeated Southwest 24-7 thanks in large part to a Ranger defense that held the Bears to under 200 total yards and out of the end zone until the game had been decided. It was the third straight game the Rangers (6-0 overall) held an opponent to a touchdown or less and under 200 yards. (October 8, 2010, Page 6A)
