Early start, run key Lady ‘Dores
Lafayette’s youth and inexperience, concerns of coach Amy Sutton heading into the season, looked more like a well seasoned unit Monday night in the opener of the MHSAA Class 4A playoffs. Lady ‘Dores come up short for 2-4A title
ECRU — The Lafayette girls basketball team’s gameplan against North Pontotoc’s 6-foot-3 center Chelsea Mabry worked well in Friday’s District 2-4A Division Tournament championship game at North Pontotoc gym.
Amongst double teams most of the game, Mabry managed to put up 11 points on the night, but it was her teammates who ultimately secured a 56-49 win for the No. 1 seed Lady Vikings over the No. 3 seed Lady ‘Dores.
‘Lady Dores advance to 2-4A title game
ECRU — New Albany’s spell over the Lafayette Lady Commodores finally came to an end. It wasn’t easy, but the Lady Commodores weathered a 43-point performance from New Albany’s Jazmine Spears to post a thrilling 61-60 win over the Lady Bulldogs Thursday in the Division 2-4A Tournament.
The victory not only improved the Lady Commodores to 12-10 overall, but advanced them to tonight’s 2-4A title game against host North Pontotoc and earned them a home game in the first round of the MHSAA Class 4A playoffs Monday night.

LHS teams garner spots in 4A playoffs
Lafayette’s boys basketball program continued to show improvement and a turnaround under second-year coach Nacoma James on Tuesday night in the elimination round of the Division 2-4A Tournament. Playing the host North Pontotoc Vikings, the Commodores were able to make enough plays, both on offense and defense, late to pull out a 65-63 win and advance to play No. 1 seed Tunica-Rosa Fort on Thursday evening. Tuesday’s win also advanced the ‘Dores to the MHSAA’s Class 4A playoffs for the first time in seven years. (February 13, 2013, Page 7)

Lady ‘Dores overcome injuries to claim crucial win
If there was ever a time for the Lafayette Lady Commodores to pull together as a team, Friday night’s Division 2-4A home game against Tunica-Rosa Fort was the perfect setting. With their junior leader, Janae Westbrook, out with a sprained AC joint and senior Keyona Peery on the mend, the Lady Commodores got defensive in their 54-35 win against the Lady Lions.
