VIDEO — How does a historic, small-town newspaper keep going strong while its big-city peers suffer? That’s the subject of a new 25-minute documentary by Mykki Newton, a videographer and editor at the University of Mississippi Meek School of Journalism and New Media. “The Oxford EAGLE: A Community Newspaper in the Internet Age” features interviews with EAGLE staff members and local readers about the paper’s place in its community. Also, Ole Miss journalism students discuss their take on the field — and reveal just where the next generation gets its daily news.

The Oxford EAGLE was named the best small daily newspaper in Mississippi at the Mississippi Press Association’s 2009 Better Newspaper Contest. The EAGLE was honored with a total of 21 awards, including eight first-place awards at Saturday’s ceremony in Tunica.
