Starkville takes down Lady Chargers

STARKVILLE — Oxford’s stay in the MHSAA Class 5A girls soccer playoffs didn’t produce the kind of results coach Laura Flint had become more accustomed to the last half of the season. (more…) (January 23, 2013, Page 2B)

Lady Chargers roll in weekend matches

Oxford’s Lady Chargers ensured themselves a winning record and a spot in the upcoming MHSAA Class 5A playoffs with two one-sided wins over the weekend. A night after defeating West Point 9-0 to remain in a tie for first place in Division 2-5A play, the Lady Chargers defeated Horn Lake 8-1 in what could be their final home match of the season.

In order for Oxford (10-8 overall, 3-1 in division) to get a first-round playoff contest at home, West Point needs to score a goal on Saltillo. If not, coach Laura Flint needs to practice her coin flipping skills because that’s how the tiebreaker with Saltillo would be decided. Saltillo and West Point play each other Tuesday. Regardless of that outcome, the Lady Chargers met a goal that was more unclear at the start of the year. (January 14, 2013, Page 7)

Don’t judge Lady Chargers by their youth

It may take a while for spectators to get used to the new-look Lady Chargers on the pitch this season. (more…) (November 8, 2012, Page 8)

Oxford takes two games from Lafayette

Fresh off of an uncharacteristic three-game losing streak, the Oxford boys soccer team took out its frustrations on crosstown rival Lafayette on a frigid Friday night cruising past the Commodores 8-0 at William L. Buford Stadium. Earlier in the evening, the Lady Chargers scored in the opening minutes of their game against Lafayette and held on for a 1-0 victory at the Ole Miss Soccer Complex.

Having lost three games prior to Friday’s big win, Oxford boys coach Jamie Perkins said he didn’t change anything strategically with the team. He just had a heart-to-heart talk with his players. (December 13, 2010, Page 1B)

OHS girls advance to North Half title match

OHS SOCCER — The Oxford Lady Chargers soccer team advanced in the Class 5A playoffs Monday with a historic 3-1 win over Saltillo. Tonight will be the first time the Lady Chargers have hosted a North Half title match and the opponent, Ridgeland, is a familiar foe that defeated OHS in the 2006 North Half title match. The Chargers unfortunately weren’t as lucky as the Lady Chargers as they fell 2-0 to Callaway in the second round of the 5A playoffs Monday. (February 2, 2010, Page 8)
