Alex Yarbrough

Yarbrough wins it for Rebels with walk-off single

(BLOG) It’s a sunny day in Oxford, Miss., that greets the Ole Miss Rebels (1-0 overall) and Wright State Raiders (0-1) of Dayton, Ohio., for Game 2 of their three game series today at Oxford-University Stadium. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. (more…) (February 19, 2011)

More than just playing for fun

COLUMN: Fans in attendance of Saturday’s 7-0 win for the current Rebel squad over the alumni team got a glimpse at what the backbone of Ole Miss’ pitching staff will likely resemble when the season opens on Feb. 18 against Wright State.

Against the professional Rebel squad — which, admittedly, for the most part had not faced live pitching in over four months — Ole Miss’ three likely weekend starters and closer allowed just two hits during nine innings of work. (more…) (February 7, 2011, Page 2B)

Mathis hungry to keep re-established confidence

Last season was one long roller coaster for Tanner Mathis.

The freshmen blew his teammates away in the fall when he not only led his team with a .410 batting average, but the outfielder also had the second-best ERA on the team at 2.77.

Mathis then turned an impressive fall into a productive start to the actual season and it looked as if his introduction to Ole Miss fans was no fluke.

As the season continued, however, Mathis began to lose his confidence.

During the April 4 game against Tennessee the sky figuratively crashed down on Mathis. (July 15, 2010, Page 6)

Rebs’ Yarbrough continuing to show skill in CPL

Many batters go to wooden bat summer leagues such as the Cape Cod League or the Coastal Plain League to hone their batting skills and Ole Miss’ Alex Yarbrough is no different.

After admittedly taking a few games to adjust to the feel of maple in his hands as opposed to aluminum, Yarbrough got on a roll for the CPL’s Thomasville Hi-Toms and this past week he was named the CPL’s Hitter of the Week (Yarbrough hit .464 in seven games with two triples and four doubles). (July 14, 2010, Page 8)

Day 3: Auburn-Ole Miss Game Blog

HOOVER, Ala. — Ole Miss’ Zach Miller said on Monday he wanted the chance to play the Auburn Tigers at Regions Park during the Southeastern Conference. He’ll get his wish today. Following what’s hopefully a brief rain delay the Rebels will get their chance to get back at the Tigers. The game is being televised on SportsSouth. (more…) (May 28, 2010)

Kilcrease does it again, Rebs fall to Alabama

Alabama pitcher Nathan Kilcrease may be small in size at 5-foot-6, but he’s a giant against Ole Miss as he proved Thursday in leading the Crimson Tide to a 6-3 win over Ole Miss in the Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Ala.

The Rebels dropped into the losers’ bracket for a 3 p.m. game today against Auburn, while Alabama is off until Saturday in action at Regions Park. (May 28, 2010, Page 6A)
