‘Dores’ Pate inks with Meridian CC

The second time proved to be a charm for Abbey Pate. The senior forward for Lafayette High’s girls soccer team had a choice to make when it came to continuing her career on the pitch. Pate earned scholarship offers from Northwest Mississippi Community College, Itawamba Community College and Meridian Community College. (December 16, 2014, Page 6)

Lafayette uses PKs, defense to sweep Oxford

Oxford and Lafayette met at Bobby Holcomb on Field Tuesday night, but it was not for a football rematch. This installment of the cross-town rivalry happened on the pitch between the high school boys and girls soccer teams.  In the boys game, it looked as if Oxford would coast to an easy win over Lafayette, leading 3-0 with less than 10 minutes remaining. But Lafayette didn’t fade into the cold night quietly and fired off three quick goals of its own to knot the game at 3, sending it to an overtime shootout. Pontotoc ends Lafayette’s season

Lafayette’s run in the MHSAA Class 4A playoffs came to an end Monday with a 6-1 loss to Pontotoc at the courts behind Oxford-University Stadium.

The young Commodores, who only lose one senior, finished the year 7-6 overall.

Chargers cap perfect regular season

Oxford capped off a perfect regular season on the court Monday afternoon with a 7-0 win over Lafayette at Avent Park. The Chargers, now 16-0 heading into the MHSAA Class 5A playoffs, feature a senior class that is 116-2 during their career and Monday’s match with the Commodores was Senior Day. Lady ‘Dores roll Cleveland
