MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Ask any of Mississippi’s top football talents if he has heard from Ole Miss’ new coach and the answer was the same more often than not.

‘Dores clean up MAC awards in 4A

Three days after claiming a second Class 4A state title, the Lafayette Commodores were on top of the football world in Mississippi.

Lafayette’s 16-0 record garnered them a final ranking of No. 1 in the final prep football poll released by the Associated Press Wednesday. LHS received five votes for No. 1, while Olive Branch, who won the 6A title, also claimed five votes to finish in a tie with the Commodores as the top team in the state. LHS looking to make school history

A second chance to make up for last season’s loss to St. Stanislaus in the Class 4A state title game is what the No. 1 Lafayette Commodores are hoping to accomplish Saturday against North Pike at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

With the goal of returning to Jackson achieved with last Friday’s win over Noxubee County, the Commodores (15-0 overall) are just one win away from winning their first title in school history and completely getting over last year’s bitter defeat.

From LHS coach Anthony Hart’s standpoint, last year’s 35-16 loss to St. Stanislaus taught his players a lesson about accomplishing things the first time. (December 3, 2010, Page 8A)
