Council on Aging
The Council on Aging, an informal group that meets monthly to provide a network of communication exchange for those who work with and on behalf of our older citizens, will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at Azalea Gardens Senior Care Community for coffee and an information exchange. All service agency providers and interested volunteers throughout the area are encouraged to attend these monthly networking meetings. Catfish Dinner Fundraiser
A catfish dinner fundraiser will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Lafayette County Chancery Building parking lot. Dinner plates will be sold for $10 and all proceeds will benefit Relay for Life. For advance tickets, call Shea Turner at 801-5849. (April 8, 2010)
Walk for Cystic Fibrosis
Everyone in the community is invited to participate in the Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis being held Sunday, April 18, at Lamar Park. Check-in is at 1:30 p.m. and the walk starts at 2. Participants will walk to spread awareness and to raise the much-needed funds to combat this devastating disease.
Walkers can complete the Great Strides Challenge (5K) or simply take a short, afternoon stroll on the Lamar Park Walking Trail to show their support for CF patients. Grief Support Group
North Mississippi Hospice will sponsor a grief support group meeting at noon Thursday at Azalea Gardens in Oxford. The meeting is open to anyone who has experienced loss. A light lunch will be provided. For more information, call 234-0140. (April 7, 2010)
BES car wash fundraiser
Bramlett Elementary School teachers and friends will hold a benefit car wash Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon in the school parking lot. Proceeds from the event will go to the group’s Relay for Life effort. All contributions and donations will be appreciated. (April 6, 2010)
Reach to Recovery
The Oxford area Reach to Recovery group will meet at 6:30 this evening at Azalea Gardens. All breast cancer survivors are encouranged to attend and enjoy a potluck supper followed by a presentation by Oxford oncologist and hematologist Dr. Paschal Wilson, entitled “Genetics and Cancer” with special emphasis on breast cancer. NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Connection, a weekly recovery support group for people living with mental illness, will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Magnolia Room of Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
