OMS Chorus Fundraiser
The OMS Chorus holiday meat fundraiser continues. Enjoy fresh-smoked meats this holiday season from Taylor Grocery while supporting the Oxford Middle School Chorus. Smoked Boston Butts (averaging 8 to 10 pounds) are $25 each. Smoked Boneless Brown Sugar-Peppered Hams (averaging 8 to 10 pounds) are $45 each.
Money is taken in advance with the order. You can place an order with Damien D. Wash, director of choral music at OMS, via e-mail, dwash@oxford.k12.ms.us, or see any OMS chorus member. Make checks payable to Oxford Middle School. The pick up day will be Friday from 3 until 4:30 p.m. in the OMS parking lot. If someone needs special pick-up arrangements or a special delivery, let Wash know in advance. (December 6, 2010)

The Oxford Lions Club’s annual Cheese Sale is underway. This is the main fundraising event for the Oxford Lions Club. Fish Fry Fundraiser
Fishers of Men, Shiloh Baptist Church, the Lafayette County Volunteer Fire Department, family and friends are hosting a benefit fish fry to help Steve and Lisa Montgomery. Steve Montgomery was seriously injured when he fell about 25 feet out of a tree stand while deer hunting on Oct. 17. The benefit will begin at 5 p.m. Dec. 11 at The Fishin’ Hole, located at 21 County Road 287. In addition to the music, fellowship and fish fry, an auction will be held to benefit the Montgomerys. The largest art event of the year features ornaments, created by local artists, that are auctioned off at this fundraiser for the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council. The event is free for members of the Arts Council. The event features tastings by local restaurants and wine brokers. The auction will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center, 403 S. 14th St. For more information, call the Arts Council at 236-6429. (November 24, 2010)

Shaw Benefit Fund
Robert “Bill” Shaw has been diagnosed with nasotharyngal carcinoma cancer, also known as throat cancer. He began treatment in May and the first cycle of treatment consisted of chemotherapy and radiation for four months. The second cycle of chemotherapy treatment was started in September and is continuing. A benefit fund for Shaw has been set up at Renasant Bank for anyone who would like to make a donation to help with expenses. (November 18, 2010)
‘Pancakes with Santa’
“Pancakes with Santa” will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 4 at St. Andrew’s UMC Fellowship Hall, 431 N. 16th St. A plate of pancakes is $5 and a picture with Santa is also $5. Proceeds will go to the church’s children’s ministry. For more information, call 234-2503. (November 18, 2010)
