‘Movie Night’

The Oxford Park Commission and Oxford Film Festival will host free “Movie Night” in the parks this summer. “Kung Fu Panda” will be shown Friday at Bailey Branch Park. “Field of Dreams” will be screened July 30 at FNC Sports Complex.

Live music will be performed before the films are shown. On Friday, Silas Reed and Da’Books will perform and on July 30, Donovan McCain and the Troubadour Band will provide the live music.

Attendees can bring their lawn chairs, blankets and movie pals to enjoy a night of free entertainment. All movies start at dusk. For more information, visit www.oxfordparkcommission.com. (July 14, 2010)

PFLAG Movie Night

PFLAG of Oxford North Mississippi, an organization that works to support, educate and advocate for gays and lesbians, bisexuals and transgender and their families, will host movie night at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Writing Center on the third floor of the main library at the University of Mississippi. World Film Night

The Lafayette County & Oxford Public Library will host a free screening of “Sadie Thompson” at 7 p.m. Tuesday as part of it’s World Film Night series. (July 4, 2010)

Film: ‘Countdown to Zero’

The University of Mississippi English Department presents a free, exclusive pre-screening of the film “Countdown to Zero,” Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Bondurant Auditorium.

The film is co-produced by Global Zero (an international, non-partisan movement to eliminate nuclear weapons worldwide), Participant Media (“An Inconvenient Truth,” “Food Inc.,” “The Kite Runner,” “Charlie Wilson’s War”), and Lawrence Bender (“Inglorious Basterds,” “Good Will Hunting,” “Pulp Fiction”).

Tupelo Indie Film Series

The Tupelo Indie Film Series presents a screening of “M for Mississippi: A Road Trip through the Birthplace of the Blues,” Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Link Centre Black Box Theatre. Early Wright Lecture: Tony Bolden

On Friday, March 26, at 1 p.m., poet and scholar Tony Bolden will give the annual Early Wright Lecture at the Department of Archives and Special Collections Center on the third floor of the J.D. Williams Library on the University of Mississippi campus. Bolden, an associate professor of African and African American Studies at the University of Kansas, was a panelist in several of the early Blues Today Symposia sponsored by Living Blues.
