OMS choir fall concert

The Oxford Middle School choirs, including the Mixed Chorus, Cantabilé and sixth-grade Singers, will present a free fall concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in Paris Yates Chapel on the Ole Miss Campus. Damein D. Wash is the director and Joseph Garrison will be the accompanist. (November 5, 2010)

Della Davidson Book Fair

Della Davidson’s Square Books Junior Book Fair will be Sunday through Thursday. A special event will be held at Square Books Junior on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For Della Day, 20 percent of all purchases will go to Della Davidson Elementary School if you identify yourself as a Della Book Fair shopper. Family night at Della Book Fair will be Tuesday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Della Davidson library. Free gift wrapping will be available at all events. Refreshments will also be provided. Regular fair hours at the school will be 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday next week. (November 5, 2010)

Oxford School Bond Referendum

Oxford School District voters will weigh in Tuesday on whether to support the effort to expand district facilities, including the construction of a new high school, by voting on a $30 million bond issue. Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Oxford Activity Center. (October 22, 2010)

Regents’ Autumn Fair

Regents School of Oxford invites everyone to its Autumn Fair from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. The fair will feature old-fashioned activities such as hay rides, pumpkin bowling, cake walks and face-painting. (October 22, 2010)

Bramlett Octoberfest

Bramlett Elementary School will have its annual Octoberfest on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Admission is $5 at the door. A few of the many features at Octoberfest are games, prizes, concessions, door prizes, cake walk, moon bounce, dunking booth, face painting and art auction. (October 22, 2010)

Mississippi School of the Arts Information

The Mississippi School of the Arts will hold an information event for interested students and parents on Oct. 21 from 5:30 till 7:30 p.m. at the Lafayette County & Oxford Public Library, 401 Bramlett Blvd. Those interested are invited to come and go as they please during this event.

The Mississippi School of the Arts is an 11th- and 12th-grade visual and performing arts residential, public high school located in Brookhaven. Students not only meet and exceed the traditional Mississippi high school curriculum, they receive special instruction in visual arts, vocal music, dance, literary arts and theater.  Students interested in MSA apply their sophomore year. Last years graduating class received more than $2.6 million in scholarship offers for college.

Business Start-up Assistance

The University of Mississippi Small Business Development Center will offer a free workshop for entrepreneurs, titled “First Steps to Starting A Business,” from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Physical Plant training room on the Oxford campus. The seminar is for those interested in starting their own business, but who are not sure where to begin. Speaker James Carden will outline the basic steps to start a business. Topics include: regulations such as licenses and permits; legal forms of business ownership; basic marketing concepts to help analyze the revenue potential; lending terminology; outline for a business plan and other resources to assist in starting a business. Renewal with Hope

Baptist Centers for Cancer Care will host Renewal with Hope from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cancer Center, 504 Azalea Drive. A light lunch will provided along with information for cancer patients, family members and caregivers on the necessity of good nutrition during and after cancer treatment. (October 15, 2010)

LMS Family Math Night

The Lafayette Middle School Math Department will host Family Math Night from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Monday in the LMS gym. Parents and students are invited to come, compete and learn math. Also, from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, teachers will be available for parent conferences. (October 15, 2010)

LHS ’86 class reunion

Lafayette High School’s Class of 1986 is beginning to plan its 25 year class reunion. A planning meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday on the third floor of the law office of Hill & Minyard PA, 1210 Office Park Drive. All interested parties are invited to attend.
