Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to millions of children around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes. This year, boxes will be collected at The Orchard at 1606 Highway 30 E. (Molly Barr Extended). Collection times are: Monday 10 a.m. to noon. Those delivering more than 50 boxes should call to schedule a drop-off time. After-School Kids’ Craft Class

The Lafayette County & Oxford Public Library will host a free After-School Kids’ Craft Class at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Those planning to participate are asked to pre-register for the class. For more information or to pre-register, call the library at 234-5751. (November 16, 2010)

Kids’ Film Weekend

The Oxford Film Festival and the Lafayette County & Oxford Public Library are participating in the nationwide KidsFirst.org’s Film Critic’s Weekend. Local organizers are trying to set the world’s record of getting the largest number of kids “viewing and reviewing” the same film on the same weekend, “The Velveteen Rabbit,” together with a caring adult. The movie will be screened at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the library at no charge. (November 11, 2010)

Kennon Observatory Open House

The Kennon Observatory will host a free open house from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday on the Ole Miss campus. Attendees will be able to use telescopes to observe the Moon, Uranus, Neptune and Jupiter, as well as the Pleiades, star clusters and colorful double stars. Observations are possible only if the weather cooperates. In case the weather is cloudy, or rainy, there can be no observation. Families and children are welcome. (November 10, 2010)

Harry Potter Party

The Lafayette County & Oxford Public Library will host a Harry Potter Party at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday for kids ages 5 and older. The party will feature Hogwarts trivia, a character contest and other events. Those who want to participant in this free event must pre-register. Medieval Faire

The senior class of Oxford High School will hold its 11th annual Medieval Faire from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday. The faire will be held on the front lawn of the high school and everyone is welcome. (November 8, 2010)
