Business plan seminar

A free seminar designed to assist small business operators in preparing a business plan will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the University of Mississippi Small Business Development Center on the UM campus. The parts of the business plan are explained, i.e., industry research, description of company products and services, identifying target customer groups and a marketing plan. Business Start-Up Seminar

The “First Steps to Starting a Business” seminar will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the training room of the Small Business Development Center on the campus of the University of Mississippi. The free seminar outlines the basic steps to start a business. Topics include: regulations such as licenses and permits; legal forms of business ownership; basic marketing concepts to help analyze the revenue potential; lending terminology; outline for a business plan and other resources to assist in starting a business. Speaker Rick Schneider will discuss different topics of interest to small business owners. Each seminar will cover a different issue. Christmas Open House

The Oxford Downtown Council is hosting it’s annual Christmas Open House for Friday, Nov. 26. Many businesses will open at 7 a.m. for early-bird Black Friday shopping. E-mail downtowncouncil@bellsouth.net for a list of participating businesses. Music, Santa and his elves, and the famous gift certificate drawing is planned for that evening beginning at 5 p.m. A drawing for over $1,000 of Downtown Council member gift certificates will be held at 8 p.m. in front of the little yellow house. AbilityWorks open house, training seminar

The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services, through its Project START division, is hosting a training seminar titled, “Tap into our Knowledge: De-mystifying Workplace Accommodations and Assistive Technology,” at its AbilityWorks facility in Oxford from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday.

This training will provide hands-on demonstrations and answer questions regarding accommodations and assistive technology in the workplace.

Human resource professionals, employers, educators and WIN Job Center staff are invited to learn about the low-cost methods and ideas to improve employment opportunities for Mississippians with disabilities. Three breakout sessions will provide the opportunity to learn information that will dispel the myths regarding accommodations and assistive technology necessary for people with disabilities in the workplace. AbilityWorks, located at 51 County Road 166 in Oxford, will also host an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the same day, with an Appreciation Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. The public is invited. (October 5, 2010)

Ford Center Crew Open Work Call

The Ford Center for the Performing Arts will have an open work call on Oct. 9 for anyone interested on working on the Ford Center Stage Crew.
