BES Book Fair

Bramlett Elementary School will hold its annual Fall Book Fair in the BES library. Great books will be available for sale to the public and attendees can also honor a Bramlett teacher by purchasing a book from their wish list for their classroom.

The book fair will be open today and Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Parents and caregivers of toddlers, school-aged children, home schoolers and friends are encouraged to purchase books. For more information, call Connie Robinson at 234-2685. (August 29, 2010)

The book fair will be open Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The book fair will also be open Tuesday night following the PTA meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. Parents and caregivers of toddlers, school-aged children, home schoolers and friends are encouraged to purchase books. Yalobusha County Historical Society

Will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, in the Presbyterian Church in Coffeeville. The speaker will be Viet Nam veteran, Gene Hayes of Oxford. He will speak of his experiences in the Viet Nam War and will review his book “The Year of the Monkey.” The public is invited, and veterans are especially welcome. (August 9, 2010)

Even though the Lafayette County & Oxford Public Library’s Summer Reading Program officially ended on July 30, children and adults can continue to turn in their reading records until the end of August and receive their prize for reading five or more books over the summer months. Summer Reading Program Party

The Lafayette County & Oxford Public Library reminds those who have participated in this year’s Summer Reading Program that Friday is the deadline to turn in their completed reading record. To mark the end of this year’s Summer Reading Program, the library will host a party at 10:30 a.m. Friday with cake and refreshments and Reggie the Reading Raccoon. Skipwith Historical and Genealogical Society

The Skipwith Historical and Genealogical Society will meet at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Genealogy Room (second floor) of the Lafayette County & Oxford Public Library, 401 Bramlett Blvd. The speaker will be Dr. Charles Eagles, William F. Winter Professor of History at the University of Mississippi. His most recent book is titled “The Price of Defiance: James Meredith and the Integration of Ole Miss.” The public is invited to this free lecture. (July 14, 2010)

Yoknapatawpha Summer Writers Workshop

The annual Yoknapatawpha Summer Writer’s Workshop will be held June 18-20 at the Oxford-Ole Miss Depot. A three-day event for writers of all experience levels, it includes workshops, craft talks, readings and social events with several prominent writers. This year’s faculty includes best-selling nonfiction writer Neil White (“In The Sanctuary of Outcasts”) and publicist Stella Connell (The Connell Agency, New York) along with fiction writers Scott Morris, M.O. Walsh and Sean Ennis.
