Area teams stay in same classes

Fans of area high school sports should expect to see some new teams to route against after the Mississippi High School Activities Association officially released the reclassification of schools for the 2011-2013 seasons Wednesday. Classifications are based on the student enrollment of each school that was reported with the State Department of Education Finance and Statistic Division in October.

Lafayette, Oxford and Water Valley all stayed in the same classifications (5A, 4A, 3A), but there were teams that the three schools have been playing that either moved up or down. Lafayette’s enrollment was listed at 690, making it the fifth-biggest school in 4A. Oxford listed an enrollment of 887, a figure that places them in the middle of 5A, while Water Valley has an enrollment of 354, a figure that also places them more in the middle of the 3A field. (November 18, 2010, Page 6)
