With an emphasis on the future, Water Valley has hired Hollandale-Simmons coach Casey Clouse to lead its softball program.
The hiring of Clouse was officially approved at the Water Valley Schoolboard meeting on April 4. She will replace Kendra Bensch, who announced earlier this season that she will be relocating with her family during the summer. (April 18, 2011, Page 3B)

A late rally wasn’t enough to lift the Water Valley Blue Devils to a win over South Pontotoc on Tuesday night. WVHS fell 8-7 despite three hits each from Taylor King, John Michael Grimmett and J.D. Fondon. One of King’s hits was his eighth home run. Water Valley will be back in action Friday at Mooreville. (April 13, 2011, Page 10)

Oxford’s girls softball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead but was unable to sustain the early momentum and ended up falling to Water Valley 4-2 at OHS on Tuesday night. Fifteen of the 21 Water Valley boys track athletes who traveled to Aberdeen on Friday were rewarded with at least a fourth-place finish. Leading the way at the Aberdeen Bulldog Relays was Montez Clark, who won the shot put. The 4×100 meter relay team of Terry Flemons, Kenon Kirkwood, C.J. Winona was able to defeat Water Valley for the first time in division play Friday with a 5-4 win in eight innings over the Blue Devils baseball team.
Drew Pratt was saddled with the loss. Walt McCullough led the Blue Devils at the plate with a home run, double and a single. Cole Camp had two singles, while Adam Langham had a double.
