Hallam’s big game lifts OMS to win

Tyler Hallam didn’t waste any time making an impact for the Oxford Middle School baseball team.

In the Chargers’ season-opening 10-0 victory over Water Valley at Edwin Moak Field on Thursday, the eighth-grader not only hit the game’s only home run, but he also picked up the win in the run-ruled three-inning game. (March 4, 2011, Page 8A)

      WVHS, LHS, OHS perform well in jamborees

      All three area high school baseball teams concluded their preseasons in successful fashion on Saturday. In Horn Lake’s jamboree, the Oxford Chargers finished 2-0 with a 10-6 win over Senatobia and a 7-4 win over host school Horn Lake. (more…) (February 21, 2011, Page 8)

        Lady Blue Devils no match for Cards

        The Water Valley Lady Blue Devils didn’t get their playoffs started exactly how they would have liked.

          Sherman proud despite final score

          Talking to Water Valley boys coach John Sherman, you never would have known the final score of the Blue Devils’ Region 2-3A title game against the Aberdeen Bulldogs.

          Grinning from ear-to-ear and laughing, Sherman, and his players, were on the receiving end of congratulatory handshakes and pats on the back. (February 14, 2011, Page 7A)

            Nettleton tops Lady Blue Devils in 2-3A title game

            After claiming a narrow victory the night before to earn the right to play in the Region 2-3A tournament title game, the Water Valley Lady Blue Devils came up short in their title bid falling to Nettleton 60-40. (February 14, 2011, Page 7A)

              Blue Devils win with ease Tuesday

              If the first game is the toughest test, then Water Valley passed with ease Tuesday night, as the No. 3 seeded Blue Devils rolled to a 58-44 win over No. 6 seed South Pontotoc at Winona’s J.J.                   Aberdeen knocks off WVHS

                  Aberdeen’s Earnest Williams scored 22 points to help lead the Bulldogs to a 58-39 win over Water Valley Tuesday night in the WVHS gym. Fred McGee led the Blue Devils (12-6 overall, 1-1 in District 2-3A play) with 18 points. (more…) (January 19, 2011, Page 7)

                    Water Valley wins district opener

                    The Water Valley Blue Devils and Lady Blue Devils basketball squads got their District 2-3A seasons off to good starts with wins over South Pontotoc on Friday night. Water Valley’s girls were led by Ashley Phillips, who scored the game-winning basket on a layup at the buzzer in a 59-58 win. She finished with 22 points, while C.C. Phillips also scored 22 points. Haley Vance added 15 to account for all of the Lady Blue Devils’ scoring.  Water Valley’s boys defeated South Pontotoc 75-47. (more…) (January 17, 2011, Page 8)
