The Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers will host a first-round MACJC baseball playoff series this weekend in Senatobia. NWCC, the co-champions in the North Division, host East Central, the No. 3 seed from the south, Friday at 2 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday that begins at noon. The winner of the best-of-three series will then advance to the state championships May 12-14. Whoever faces the Water Valley Blue Devils in the next round of the MHSAA Class 3A baseball playoffs take warning: You’re going to need a bigger boat.
Paced by a potent offensive attack, the Blue Devils defeated the Kossuth Aggies 10-8 Friday night at Kossuth and went on to sweep the series Saturday with a 10-3 win at Blue Devil Field to advance to the third round. With an emphasis on the future, Water Valley has hired Hollandale-Simmons coach Casey Clouse to lead its softball program.
The hiring of Clouse was officially approved at the Water Valley Schoolboard meeting on April 4. She will replace Kendra Bensch, who announced earlier this season that she will be relocating with her family during the summer. (April 18, 2011, Page 3B)
