LHS looks for second win; Devils try to keep Ws coming

Lafayette is looking for any win it can find right now, Water Valley will try to keep the wins coming, and Oxford will watch everybody else in the fifth week of the area high school football season tonight. (September 19, 2014, Page 6)

    H.W. Byers blanks Devils in region match

    Water Valley volleyball coach Casey Clouse knew this season would be one filled with growing pains for her young team. Thursday night was more of that as the Blue Devils were swept by H.W.       Blue Devils searching for another win against ‘athletic’ Warriors

        Blue Devils snap skid with 32-21 victory over Bruce

        WATER VALLEY – After two consecutive losses, a Friday night in Death Valley is just what the doctor ordered for Water Valley. A second half pick-six by sophomore defensive back Quez Towns and four Alex Robles field goals paced the Blue Devils in their 32-21 victory over rival Bruce at Bobby Clark Field. (September 14, 2014, Page 4B)

          Crosstown Classic highlights area prep schedule

          The annual showdown between Lafayette and Oxford will take center stage tonight at Bobby Holcomb Field, highlighting this week’s area prep football schedule. The Chargers come into the Crosstown Classic riding the momentum of a convincing 50-15 victory at Cleveland East Side a week ago while Lafayette entered the win column for the first time with a 3-0 win over DeSoto Central. Water Valley hasn’t had the same success lately, taking a two-game losing streak into tonight’s game against Bruce at Bobby Clark Field. The Blue Devils are coming off a 28-7 loss to Calhoun City. (September 12, 2014, Page 1B)

            Devils look to end skid at home against Bruce

            The Water Valley Blue Devils football team is in uncharted territory. For the first time since 2007 the Blue Devils have started the season losing two of their first three games. It’s something the team has had a hard time bouncing back from this week at practice. (September 11, 2014, Page 8)

              ‘Dores finish off season sweep of WVHS

              WATER VALLEY – Lafayette’s volleyball team picked up the pace against Water Valley. It helped the Commodores pick up another region victory Tuesday night. Lafayette (11-7, 3-1 in Class I, Region 2) finished off a season sweep of the Blue Devils with a 3-0 win (25-12, 25-13, 25-9) at the WVHS multipurpose building. (September 10, 2014, Page 6)

                Embry sees improvement from Devils in loss to Calhoun City

                CALHOUN CITY— Water Valley head coach Brad Embry told his team he saw improvement from the previous week’s game against Coffeeville to Friday Night. Those improvements were not enough, though, as the Calhoun City Wildcats (2-1) handed the Blue Devils (1-2) their second straight loss with a 28-7 victory. (September 7, 2014, Page 4B)

                    Area prep teams look to get back on track

                    All three area high school football teams will be trying to get back in the win column tonight after suffering setbacks last week. Two of them will attempt to do it on the road as Oxford makes the trek to Cleveland to take on East Side while Water Valley travels to Calhoun City. Lafayette will stay at home for the third straight week, looking for its first win of the year against DeSoto Central. (September 5, 2014, Page 6)
