Nelson stifles Ole Miss’ bats in 4-1 win

TUSCALOOSA — What a difference a year can make. Last year, Alabama pitcher Jimmy Nelson was the goat on Friday night for the Crimson Tide, blowing a two-run lead in the ninth to lose 8-7.

Fast-forward a year, and it’s hard to believe Nelson could have pitched any better.

On Saturday, the Alabama junior pitched what both he and head coach Mitch Gaspard termed his best outing of the season, silencing Ole Miss’ bats in their 4-1 victory.

Rebels hold on for 5-4 win

TUSCALOOSA —It wasn’t the prettiest win, but the Rebels’ five runs in the first three innings were just enough to overcome seven walks by starter Drew Pomeranz and two errors by second baseman Alex Yarbrough as No. 15 Ole Miss was able to hold on to a 5-4 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Pomeranz not bothered by “nagging injury”

When you’re the face of the program, a projected top 10 pick in the upcoming MLB Draft and and your velocity takes a bit of a dip, people are going to take notice. (more…) (May 11, 2010)

Arkansas takes series finale from Ole Miss

Against the Ole Miss Rebels, Arkansas pitcher Mike Bolsinger pitched like the Friday night ace he had been up until about four weeks ago.

The right-hander allowed no runs on two hits and three walks while striking out a career-high 11 batters in 8.0 innings to lead the Razorbacks to a lopsided 7-0 win on Sunday at Oxford-University Stadium.

                Matt Snyder update/injury timeline

After apparently re-aggravating his left shoulder during an at-bat on Friday against Arkansas, Ole Miss sophomore designated hitter Matt Snyder has not started in Saturday or Sunday’s games.

REVISED: News and notes from Lafayette-Amory series

During my brief phone interview with Amory Panthers head baseball coach Chad Williams on Thursday (for this article regarding Will Cox) it was brought up how the Lafayette Commodores have shown a lot of character and grit this season.

Barrett pitches gem in Rebels win
