Dennis suspension brings up several issues
COLUMN: A phantom call and a decision mired in politics is ultimately costing the Lafayette Commodores and standout running back Demarkous Dennis tonight.

Junior college presidents drop ball on local athletes, programs
COLUMN: Leave it to a collective group of college presidents to effectively tinker with something that isn’t broken.
When the junior college presidents of Mississippi decided late Tuesday that they were eliminating the protected recruiting list for all sports, getting rid of the current athletic districts and greatly reducing the amount of scholarships for out-of-state players, they all but killed junior college athletics in this state. COLUMN: NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt is expecting this week to be one filled with negativity, one filled with questions about why his offensive line can’t block opposing defenses, why the Rebels have trouble executing the plays called and what he and his staff are going to do about the rash of turnovers that came about during Saturday’s 30-7 loss to Vanderbilt. Liggins proving naysayers wrong
COLUMN: SHREVEPORT, La. — Doubters don’t bother Lafayette quarterback Jeremy Liggins. They never have and they likely never will. Liggins heard enough of the negative talk about his increased playing weight during the spring when he was a member of Lafayette’s baseball team.
He heard some more in the summer during 7-on-7 drills at South Panola and at O-Zone Classic tournament as he led the Commodores to a title. He’s even heard people doubt that he can play quarterback at the next level while he traveled around town. (more…) (September 12, 2011, Page 3B)
‘Dores defending state, pride now
COLUMN: 
It wasn’t long after Lafayette’s sixth-straight win over crosstown rival Oxford on Friday night that LHS coach Anthony Hart brought up the next big challenge for his team, Evangel Christian.
The No. 1 Commodores will be leaving the state for Shreveport, La., this Saturday to play in the “Battle on the Border,” a game that is all about bragging rights and school pride. Similar games have been played by the South Panola Tigers, as well as a few other programs from the state, in recent years in order to find out which state really has the best talent. Cook ready to take next step in his life
COLUMN: One of the most inspirational and devoted football players to play at Ole Miss is ready for a new chapter in his life.
Jason Cook, a former fullback under coaches David Cutcliffe, Ed Orgeron and current coach Houston Nutt, will be leaving Oxford Saturday for Birmingham, Ala., to start a three-year journey that will culminate with a Master of Divinity degree from Beeson Divinity School. Never be surprised by Media Days
COLUMN: HOOVER, Ala. — College football’s unofficial start to the 2011 season gets underway today at the Wynfrey Hotel. The Southeastern Conference’s annual Media Days event is always a big draw and this year is no exception as over 900 credentials were issued to various writers, TV reporters and radio announcers.
