Thees hired as OM’s next softball coach

Having posted a 140-193 record over the last five seasons, and most recently a 14-39 mark, it was obvious the next coach of the Ole Miss softball program needed to be one that had experience building a program.

With an eye toward that exact need, Ole Miss announced Thursday that it has hired Windy Thees as its next head coach. Thees doesn’t have to travel far, having spent the last six years at Memphis. (more…) (July 1, 2011, Page 8A)

    Still unsigned, Reed hopes deal is imminent

    June 7 was one of the most exciting days in Michael Reed’s young baseball career.

      Brassell latest to qualify for Rebels

      The good news keeps coming for the Ole Miss football team. Joining recent qualifiers Tobias Singleton and Jamal Mosley is South Panola All-American Nick Brassell.

      According to RebelGrove.com and The Ole Miss Spirit, Brassell received news on Wednesday that he has achieved a qualifying ACT score and is enrolled in Ole Miss’ second summer session. (more…) (June 30, 2011, Page 6)

        OHS’s Kendricks named Athlete of the Year

        A celebrated high school career, both on the track and in the classroom, culminated with another award for Oxford High pole vaulter Sam Kendricks late last week. The Ole Miss signee, who set a new pole vault record at this year’s MHSAA state meet, was honored Friday when he was named the Gatorade Mississippi Boys Athlete of the Year in track for the 2010-11 school year.

        It was the first time a Charger won the award given annually to the student-athlete who not only excels in their respective sport but also in the classroom. (June 28, 2011, Page 6)

          Rebels’ new commit strengthens O-line

          There is belief among college football coaches that having a strong and dependable offensive line will help determine a team’s success each fall more than any other position on the field. If that is truly the case, then the Ole Miss Rebels and coach Houston Nutt look to have made the line’s future that much stronger with the verbal commitment of Indiana native Jake Meador.

            WR Singleton says he’s ready to enroll

            Former standout Madison Central receiver Tobias Singleton confirmed via text message Monday evening that he has qualified to enroll at Ole Miss with an ACT score of 24.

              Rebel targets make first cut for U-18 Team USA

              It’s been quite a busy week for several Ole Miss verbal commitments and one high-ranked recruit.

                WR Logan has something to prove

                Ole Miss junior wide receiver Ja-Mes Logan said he and the rest of the team’s receivers have something to prove heading into the 2011 season. In a year where there is no proven No. 1 receiver for a quarterback to throw to, Logan is hoping that he can fill that role sooner rather than later for the Rebels. (June 27, 2011, Page 7)
