Rebels will look to young LBs

Ole Miss had a pretty standard sales pitch when it was recruiting this year’s freshmen linebackers: Come to Oxford and you’ll have a chance to contribute right away.

The extent, however, that the Rebels will be relying on the newcomers could be a bit surprising. (more…) (August 23, 2011, Page 9)

Last Saturday Ole Miss baseball coach Mike Bianco made prep pitcher Matt Denny an offer he couldn’t refuse.

        RHP Hensley: I’m a Rebel

Sunday felt like the perfect day to make it official.

After months of being courted by some of the top baseball programs in the country, and one day after pitching a scoreless first inning for the American squad in the Under Armor All-America Baseball Game at Wrigley field, elite pitching recruit Ty Hensley tweeted “It’s official… I’m an Ole Miss Rebel!!! #hottytoddy” prior to flying home from Chicago to Edmond, Okla.

Temperatures in the high 90s couldn’t deny the official start to the high school football season on Monday.

Waguespack picks Ole Miss over LSU

The Ole Miss Diamond Rebels went to a somewhat unlikely place to snag its eighth verbal commitment for the 2012 signing class.

On Friday, Dutchtown (Baton Rouge, La.) High right-hander Jacob Waguespack called recruiting coordinator Carl Lafferty to formally commit to the Rebels.

“I’m at the East Coast Pro Showcase right now and I wanted to (commit) before that, so I went ahead and did it Friday,” he said Sunday. (more…) (August 1, 2011, Page 8A)

Chase Robison is tired of hearing coaches say they still need to “evaluate” him.

The 6-foot-4, 228-pound defensive end from Christian Brothers (Memphis) worked out at Ole Miss’ senior day on Saturday and felt he really made the case that he should earn a scholarship offer. (more…) (July 29, 2011, Page 8A)

On June 4 Austin Ray trekked south from Columbia, Mo., to Oxford to participate in one of Ole Miss’ football camps.

The 6-foot-6, 235-pound tight end impressed the coaching staff enough to garner his first offer from a FBS program.

Last weekend, Ray once again participated in an Ole Miss football camp, and after heading home for a couple of days, he verbally committed to the Rebels on Wednesday. (more…) (July 28, 2011, Page 8A)
