Once the rumor the University of Mississippi might start charging rent for people to set up tents in the Grove on game days hit the social networking scene, it spread like wildfire.
On Tuesday, the university’s Game Day Committee extinguished that fire when it unanimously voted not to charge fees for tailgating during the upcoming 2010 Rebel football season. (April 14, 2010, Page 1A)
Describing what Brandon Blake meant to the Oxford Chargers on the hardwood this season can’t be accomplished in just a word or small phrase. There were a few moments after Oxford scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning in Tuesday’s District 2-5A home game with New Hope that Chargers’ coach Bradley Roberson said he felt good about his team’s chances the rest of the way.
“I knew that these guys were going to come out and compete tonight. When we were up 5-3, I had a good feeling about the game to be honest,” Roberson said. “But again, I knew even though it was 5-3, (New Hope) had barreled up some balls early themselves. I knew we needed to try and get some more (runs) if we were going to win the ballgame.”
Unfortunately for Roberson and his team, his intuition proved to be right as the Trojans exploded offensively, scoring four runs in three different innings after the third en route to an eventual 16-5 win. (April 14, 2010, Page 3B)
