It’s hard to carry on a conversation regarding the Amory Panthers baseball team without mentioning junior pitcher Will Cox.

Oxford’s girls and boys track teams are both looking to capture their first Class 5A North Half title Saturday at Bobby Holcomb Field. The Chargers and Lady Chargers have dominated their competition in both the district and region meets leading up to North Half and coach Scott Kendricks said his teams are prepared for the meet, which is the final opportunity for athletes to qualify for the next week’s 5A state meet. The Chargers (19-0 overall) latest victory earned them their first Class 5A North Half championship pennant and set up one half of Monday’s title match which will be played at 9 a.m. at the Ridgeland Tennis Center against either Brookhaven or West Jones.

It’s far from lonely atop the Southeastern Conference Western Division standings for the No. 13 Ole Miss baseball team.
In fact, the team they share first with, No. 14 Arkansas, will be in Oxford this weekend looking to not only separate itself from the Rebels, but also get even for last season.
A year ago, the Rebels traveled to Arkansas and swept the Razorbacks to earn a share of the SEC Title with LSU.
