Oxford High track standout Sam Kendricks set a new OHS indoor pole vault record of 14 feet, 6 inches at the the LSU High School Indoor Invitational Saturday. The previous record was shared both by Joseph Stevens and Kelly Drewery. Kendricks finished third overall in the competition against the most elite vaulters in the nation and he is currently ranked 19th in the nation for all vaulters. An opportunity to earn a rare road win and gain a tremendous boost in the RPI is what the Ole Miss Rebels and head coach Andy Kennedy are hoping to gain in the Southeastern Conference opener at Florida Saturday.
Ole Miss (12-3 overall) will be opening the SEC season on the road for the 10th time in the last 13 seasons and facing arguably the best team in the SEC in the Gators, who are 11-3 and coming off two impressive wins over Xavier and Rhode Island. (January 7, 2011, Page 6A)
