LHS’s Thompson inks with NWCC

Four years of hard work in practice, coupled with a strong outside shot, finally paid dividends for Lafayette guard Sherneal Thompson Monday as she signed a scholarship offer to play for Northwest Mississippi Community College. (April 27, 2010, Page 9)

    McCluster now a Chief; four Rebels drafted overall

    Four Ole Miss players were drafted between the second and sixth rounds of the 2010 NFL Draft over the weekend. Running back/wide receiver Dexter McCluster was the first Rebel selected in the annual draft as he went to the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round, No. 36 overall. Offensive lineman John Jerry followed McCluster as he was selected in the third round (No. 73) by the Miami Dolphins. Both McCluster and Jerry were taken on Friday.

      Rebels rally late to win game, earn sweep

      As Kevin Mort’s fly ball bounced into left field, and Taylor Hightower trotted safely home, LSU outfielder Leon Landry didn’t budge from his position. The damage had been done. The No. 27 Ole Miss Rebels had just completed a three-game sweep of the reigning national champion LSU Tigers, coming from behind to beat their Southeastern Conference West rival 7-6 at Oxford-University Stadium on Sunday. (April 26, 2010, Page 1B)

        Snyder OK after being bumped in celebration

        Immediately following Ole Miss’ walk-off win on Sunday the Rebels had a bit of a scare when the often-injured Matt Snyder was bumped during the celebration.

        As the players flooded onto the field following Kevin Mort’s walk-off single, Snyder ended up at the bottom of the dogpile.

        Snyder, who has twice had his shoulder dislocated during games, had to be helped off the field — albeit only momentarily — before joining the team in left field for their post-game talk. (April 26, 2010, Page 2B)

          Thompson, Olivi claim race titles Sunday

          Beverly Thompson and Henry Olivi were the overall female and male winners of the Double Decker 10K Run held Sunday. Thompson won the men’s portion of the event with a time of 39 minutes, 22 seconds, while Thompson finished in 43:30.

          Lafayette High running standout Esmeralda Rodriguez was the top female finisher in the 5K race with a 21:09.

          Oxford’s Charlie Dawson was the top male finisher in the race with a 16:02. In the 5K competitive walk race, Lyann Lawrence of Taylor won with a 33:48, while Scott Owens of Oxford won with a 32:48. (April 26, 2010, Page 2B)

            OHS makes quick work of NCHS

            Oxford rolled through the first round of the Class 5A playoffs, their first in the new classification, with a 4-0 win over Neshoba Central on Friday. Three matches were in progress when things were called because of inclement weather. (April 26, 2010, Page 3B)

              Rebels rally to take Game 2

              In Game 2 the Ole Miss Rebels rallied from an early 5-0 deficit to defeat the LSU Tigers 9-8 in 11 innings.

                Rebels win slug-fest in Game 1 vs. LSU

                Game 1 of the Ole Miss-LSU baseball series had been billed as the must-see pitching matchup of the year. What it turned out to be, however, was a slug-fest.

                Ole Miss was able to collect four home runs en route to an 11-9 victory over the No. 6 Tigers in at Oxford-University Stadium on Saturday. (more…) (April 24, 2010)
