Ole Miss’ inability to put its loss to Mississippi State behind them cost them dearly against another set of Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum. No. 24 Georgia jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game and continued to slice and dice up the Ole Miss defense the rest of the way en route to a one-sided 98-76 win.
The Bulldogs (13-3 overall, 2-1 in the Southeastern Conference) shot a blistering 63.5 percent (33-for-52) from the floor, the best percentage shot by any SEC team against any opponent this year, while all five starters scored at least 12 points in the effort. (January 17, 2011, Page 6)

The No. 18 Ole Miss women’s tennis team concluded a successful opening weekend to the 2011 season Sunday by winning five of six singles matches against Missouri at the Memphis Winter Invitational. A three-day break due to last week’s heavy snowstorm ended up being a huge help to the Lafayette Lady Commodores on Friday night against Senatobia. LHS broke a two-game losing streak in District 2-4A play by downing the Lady Warriors 71-38 in the LHS gym. The win improved the Lady Commodores to 14-3 overall and 4-2 in the district.
Lafayette’s boys weren’t as fortunate as the girls, losting to Senatobia 49-40 in the nightcap. (January 17, 2011, Page 8)
The Water Valley Blue Devils and Lady Blue Devils basketball squads got their District 2-3A seasons off to good starts with wins over South Pontotoc on Friday night. Water Valley’s girls were led by Ashley Phillips, who scored the game-winning basket on a layup at the buzzer in a 59-58 win. She finished with 22 points, while C.C. Phillips also scored 22 points. Haley Vance added 15 to account for all of the Lady Blue Devils’ scoring. Water Valley’s boys defeated South Pontotoc 75-47. (more…) (January 17, 2011, Page 8)
