Playoffs begin for middle school baseball teams

    LB Shackelford injured during Monday’s practice

    Ole Miss kicked off Grove Bowl Week the same way it had the last two weeks, with a two-plus practice in the Indoor Practice Facility after rains forced the Rebels indoors on Monday.

    Head coach Houston Nutt talked about Saturday’s scrimmage after practice, but the biggest news of the day involved junior linebacker D.T. Shackelford, who sustained a knee injury during the practice. An immediate diagnosis was not known right after practice and results from an MRI performed were expected to be released today.           Wright, Rebs come alive to avoid sweep

          When his team needed him the most Ole Miss starter Austin Wright delivered with one of his “on” days.

          Facing its first Southeastern Conference series sweep since Auburn took three in Oxford last May, Wright limited Georgia to three runs in 6.0 innings to help the Rebels earn a 12-7 victory at Oxford-University Stadium. (more…) (April 11, 2011, Page 1B)

            Rebels’ Poole making most of his opportunity

            Given his first real chance, Jordan Poole didn’t disappoint.

            After receiving five plate appearances through the first 30 games of the season, Poole, a freshman outfielder from Calhoun, Ga., was awarded his first start of the season on Friday against Georgia and made head coach Mike Bianco look like a smart guy. (more…) (April 11, 2011, Page 1B)

              Commodores awarded title rings

              An offseason that has been filled with preparations for the future was briefly interrupted on Friday for the Lafayette High football team.

                Lafayette baseball rolls Center Hill

                Lafayette’s potent lineup led the Commodores to two one-sided wins over Center Hill and New Albany over the weekend. The Commodores defeated Center Hill 13-2 on Friday night to remain perfect (6-0) in Region 2-4A play, while the ‘Dores smacked around the Bulldogs for the second time this year in a 14-9 win at New Albany.
