Oxford’s girls basketball team defeated West Point on Friday night to remain undefeated in District 1-5A play, while the Green Wave defeated the Oxford boys 69-60 in the nightcap. Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt finished making moves on his staff for the 2011 season today with the hiring of Keith Burns as secondary coach. An Ole Miss scoring drought midway through the second half allowed LSU to pull away as the Ole Miss women’s basketball team fell 78-43 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center Thursday night.

Experienced lifters is a common thread the Lafayette girls and boys powerlifting teams share this year. A season after the Commodores won the Class 4A title and the Lady Commodores finished third in the state in its Class II division, several lifters who were on those teams return to both squads in the attempt to repeat those lofty results. Good things are expected from the Oxford Chargers powerlifting team this season as they head into the fourth year under coach Jason Russell.
