Salau scores four goals for U10 Fire

Farid Salau scored four goals to help lead the Under 10 Boys League Fire to a 7-2 win over the Earthquakes in Oxford Park Commission youth soccer action Monday night.

In the three other U-10 boys games, the Galaxy topped the Tornados 3-1, the Sounders pounded the Crew behind four goals from Nick Huggins, while the United blanked the Wizards. In two U-12 girls league games, the United edged the Sounders 2-1, while the Galaxy outlasted the Tornados 6-4. In two U-12 boys league games, the Earthquakes beat the Tornados 7-1, while the Wizards edged the Galaxy 4-3. (October 5, 2010, Page 9)

    OHS bounces back to trounce Wildcats

    The Oxford Chargers got the bad taste of losing to New Hope out of their mouths Friday night with a 37-13 win over Clarksdale at Bobby Holcomb Field. The win improved the Chargers to 4-2 overall and an even more important 1-1 in Region 1-5A.

    OHS coach Johnny Hill felt his Chargers played “pretty well” against the Wildcats (3-3, 1-1). (October 4, 2010, Page 4B)

        Rangers get defensive in win over Tigers

        A stranglehold on the MACJC North Division standings is what the No. 9 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers secured Thursday night with a 26-6 win over Northeast.

        The Rangers (5-0 overall, 3-0 in the North) battered the Tigers (3-2, 2-1) from start to finish by forcing six turnovers and holding them to just 117 total yards. NWCC, which has now won five straight in the series, is now plus 10 in the turnover column and only allowed 32 points in three games to North Division teams. (October 1, 2010, Page 6A)

          LMS Commodores whack the Warriors

          Lafayette’s two middle school squads came up big on Tuesday sweeping Senatobia in two games. The Commodore seventh-grade squad squeaked past Senatobia 8-6, while the eight-graders topped the Warriors 30-6. (September 30, 2010, Page 9)

            Blue Devils sweep Pope, top Bulldogs

            The Water Valley football program had a successful day on Tuesday at Bobby Clark Field against Pope Junior High.

            The seventh-grade squad kicked off the day with a 36-24 victory, while the eighth-grade Blue Devils were able to hold on to a 6-0 victory. (September 29, 2010, Page 8)

              McGhee scores twice, lifts Oxford 8th-graders past Grenada

              After trading touchdowns early, the Oxford’s eighth-grade football team was able to string together 13-straight points to defeat Grenada 22-8 on the road.

                LHS downs Byhalia, stamps ticket for playoffs

                The Lafayette Lady Commodores volleyball team defeated Byhalia on Tuesday 3-0 (25-10, 25-7, 25-12). With the win, Lafayette secured its spot in the playoffs and will travel to Caledonia on Saturday. The match is set for 3 p.m. (September 29, 2010, Page 9)

                  Fikes scoring spree lifts U-10 Crew

                  Alex Fikes scored five goals to lead the Crew to an 8-5 win over the Wizards in the Under 10 Boys League Monday night.

                  In the other U-10 game, the Fire beat the Galaxy 5-2.

                  In two U-12 boys league games, the Tornados edged the Sounders 3-2, while the Earthquakes pounded the Wizards 5-1.

                  In two U-10 girls league games, the Earthquakes blanked the Galaxy 5-0, while the Crew doubled up the Fire 4-2. In two U-12 girls league games, the Galaxy blanked the Sounders 3-2, while the Crew edged the Tornados 3-2. (September 28, 2010, Page 7)

                    Dennis, Liggins pace ‘Dores in rout

                    The Lafayette Commodores’ star players on offense, Jeremy Liggins and Demarkus Dennis, performed exceptionally well in front of a large, raucous Homecoming crowd Friday night at William L. Buford Stadium. Liggins and Dennis combined for seven touchdowns as the Commodores smashed the Byhalia Indians 52-0 in the Region 2-4A contest.
