Aggression the key to Conard’s game
Aggression is a key intangible needed to play football at a high level, especially for defenders who must routinely sacrifice their bodies to make tackles and keep opposing teams out of the end zone. For Water Valley corneback/wide receiver Chris Conard, playing with a mean streak, or better yet with a high amount of aggression, has never been an issue.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pounder routinely sacrifices his body for the betterment of the Blue Devils. As a member of the Wrecking Crew, Conard is the one player who has the ability to make all the finesse plays in coverage as well as hit like a safety or linebacker in the running game.

Devils host J.Z. George for Homecoming Friday
Bouncing back from the first loss of the season and starting to fine tune some mistakes are two things Water Valley Blue Devils coach Brad Embry wants to see his team do Friday night against J.Z. George. The Blue Devils’ annual Homecoming game is set 7:30 p.m. while Homecoming activities are set for 6:30.
WVHS (2-1) lost 10-7 to Calhoun City last week and the big issue was on offense where the Blue Devils were unable to score inside the red zone. (September 9, 2010, Page 6)
‘Dores looking to stay focused on IAHS
Every season the Crosstown Classic against Oxford isn’t just another game on the schedule. It’s a rivalry game that can take an emotional toll on its participants.
After winning their fifth straight game against Oxford, the Commodores will now have to regroup, recharge and focus their energy on Class 4A opponent Itawamba AHS (1-2 overall).
Last year, the Commodores’ lone regular season loss came at the hands of the Indians following a big win against Oxford.
This year, the Lafayette coaching staff is focused on not letting history repeat itself. (September 9, 2010, Page 6)
Chargers turn their sights to Senatobia
A final opportunity to work out some kinks and start to fine tune things against another solid opponent heading into region play is what Oxford faces this Friday night at Senatobia.
The Warriors (2-1 overall) are always a well-coached team and in the past have given the Chargers a lot to prepare for.
This year is no different said OHS coach Johnny Hill, who enjoys squaring off against SHS coach Phil Oakley. Oakley scolded his team after falling to Winona 45-21 in the opener and the motivational talk has resulted in a win over Corinth as well as a win last week over Tate County rival Independence. No. 15 NWCC to host East Central tonight

The Rangers were one of only two teams to win from the MACJC’s North Division last week, while East Central was the only other team from South Division to lose, falling 34-6 to Northeast.
