LHS bowling opens season

The Lafayette bowling team will open its season Tuesday against Itawamba AHS in Tupelo. The varsity girls team includes Allena Bratton, Briana Clarkson, Desiree Jones, Ginny Kate Lofton, Paige Moore, Shamanda Price, Courtney Sharp, Taylor Tubbs, Alexis Sherman, Grace Watts, Sharvae Williams and Katelyn Wingon.

The boys team includes Sherman Bowles, Robert Gage, Tyler Hynous, Clint Lokey, Tyler Odom, Andrew Smith, Jamie Todd, Alex Watts, Jordan Willms and Allen Bratton. LHS coach Vicki Lokey said she is looking forward to another great season and anticipating another trip to Jackson for the state playoffs. (November 5, 2010, Page 6A)

    OMS earns sweep of Water Valley on Thursday

    The Oxford Middle School girls and boys basketball teams earned two wins on Thursday in the OHS gym. The seventh-grade Chargers beat Water Valley 22-5 and the eighth-grade Chargers topped the Blue Devils 30-11.

    The seventh-grade Lady Chargers defeated Water Valley 19-9 while the eighth-grade girls won 32-13. (November 5, 2010, Page 7A)

      Water Valley, Lafayette split games

      Lafayette and Water Valley split four games to open the middle school basketball season for both programs Tuesday in the WVHS gym. The seventh-grade Commodores defeated Water Valley 26-7, while the eighth-grade Blue Devils rallied to post a 15-13 win in the nightcap.

      Lafayette’s seventh-grade girls lost 16-7 to the Lady Blue Devils, while Water Valley’s eighth-grade were defeated 12-10. (November 3, 2010, Page 6)

        6-7 Steelers’ Durham explodes for 8 TDs

        Taylor Durham’s eight touchdowns paced the 6-7 year-old Steelers in a 58-6 win over the Packers in Oxford Park Commission youth flag football action Monday night at FNC Park.

        In the other 6-7 games, the Bears beat the Giants 26-14, the Jets throttled the Vikings 32-6, while the Jaguars beat the Cowboys 34-20.

        In the 8-9 league, the Jets blanked the Steelers 7-0, the Ravens downed the Cowboys 34-6, the Packers topped the Giants 21-6 while the Chiefs beat the Saints. In the 10-12 league, the Steelers beat the Chiefs 32-6, while the Cowboys topped the Jets 19-12. (November 3, 2010, Page 7)

          LHS playoff tickets set

          The price for Friday’s Class 4A football playoff game at William L. Buford Stadium has been set by the MHSAA at $7. The No. 1 Commodores will host North Pontotoc in the first round game starting at 7 p.m. Only state passes will be recognized for the game, no LHS passes can gain entrance. (November 2, 2010, Page 9)

            OMS sweeps SPMS on the court

            The Oxford seventh- and eighth-grade girls and boys basketball teams earned its first wins of the season Monday in the Oxford High School gym. The Lady Chargers defeated South Pontotoc 21-15 in the seventh-grade game while the Lady Chargers beat South Pontotoc 30-21 in the eighth-grade game. Oxford’s boys beat South Pontotoc 28-2 while the eighth-grade boys won 61-15 in the nightcap. (November 2, 2010, Page 9)

              Oxford teams take home second place in division

              Oxford’s final cross country meet before the MHSAA State Championships produced two second-place finishes for the Chargers and Lady Chargers in the Division 1-5A meet held in Saltillo Saturday.

              Saltillo won both titles Saturday, while New Hope also competed in the meet. (November 1, 2010, Page 3B)

                Ole Miss baseball hosting camps

                The Ole Miss baseball team has set dates for its two winter baseball camps. The hitting specialty camp will be held Dec. 4-5 and the pitching/catching specialty camp will be on Jan. 15-16. Both camps are for children in grades 1-12.                   Tannehill makes it look easy in 6-7 Jaguars’ win

                  Jack Tannehill’s three-touchdown performance paced the 6-7 year-old Jaguars in a 25-14 win over the Jets in Oxford Park Commission flag football action at FNC Park.

                  In the other 6-7 games, the Steelers pounded the Vikings behind four touchdowns from Taylor Durham, the Bears downed the Packers 31-14 while the Giants edged the Chiefs 12-8. In the 8-9 league, the Ravens ripped the Bears 27-6, the Raiders blanked the Steelers 20-0, the Saints outlasted the Cowboys 40-34, while the Chiefs beat the Jets 18-0. In two 10-12 games, the Jets beat the Giants 20-6 while the Bears defeated the Steelers 21-12. (October 27, 2010, Page 11)
