‘Dores sharp again in rout of Warriors

The No. 1 ranked Lafayette Commodores dominated Senatobia in every aspect of the game Friday night, beating the Warriors 54-7 at William L Buford Stadium. The Commodores improved to 8-0 overall on the year and 4-0 in Region 2-4A play  despite starting the game more on the sluggish side. (October 11, 2010, Page 1B)

    OHS cross country fares well at MC Invitational

    Despite several runners being absent, the Oxford cross country team was still able to fare well at the Mississippi College Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.

    While the varsity boys placed ninth and the girls placed 11th, the junior varsity boys took fifth place and the JV girls placed eighth. (October 11, 2010, Page 3B)

      Volleys, Spinners tie

      Neither the Volleys nor the Spinners could get one-up the other during last Thursday’s Oxford Park Commission’s junior team tennis action, tying 2-2.  Anne Hardy earned the lone singles match point for Spinners. Ryan Mounce and Jonathan Masters earned the No. 1 doubles point, while John Tate Roberts and Avery Atkinson earned the No. 3 doubles point for the Volleys.           Terrico White out with broken foot, Jayme Mitchell traded

          The Detroit Pistons were hit hard by injuries in their first preseason game.
          Detroit forward Jonas Jerebko tore his right Achilles’ tendon and guard Terrico White broke his right foot in Tuesday’s night exhibition in Miami. Both will have surgery Friday. (more…) (October 7, 2010, Page 7)

            Rock’s four goals lift U-12 Wizards to win

            Kyle Rock’s four goals led the Under-12 boys Wizards to a 6-2 victory over the Tornados in Oxford Park Commission action on Tuesday.

            In the other U12 boys game the Galaxy cruised past the Sounders 8-0.

            In the U10 girls league, United top the Galaxy 6-0 and the Sounders defeated the Earthquake 2-0. In the U12 girls league, the Crew topped the Sounders 1-0, United and the Tornados played to a 0-0 tie, and the Galaxy defeated the Crew 6-0. (October 6, 2010, Page 8)

              Ole Miss baseball announces 2011 schedule

              The Ole Miss baseball team will host 33 home games and play series against seven NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago, head coach Mike Bianco announced on Tuesday with the release of the Rebels’ 2011 schedule.

              Season tickets for baseball will go on sale beginning in November. Season ticket packages remain, and fans are encouraged to place their orders to secure their spot in what has become one of the best college baseball atmospheres in America. (October 6, 2010, Page 9)

                Salau scores four goals for U10 Fire

                Farid Salau scored four goals to help lead the Under 10 Boys League Fire to a 7-2 win over the Earthquakes in Oxford Park Commission youth soccer action Monday night.

                In the three other U-10 boys games, the Galaxy topped the Tornados 3-1, the Sounders pounded the Crew behind four goals from Nick Huggins, while the United blanked the Wizards. In two U-12 girls league games, the United edged the Sounders 2-1, while the Galaxy outlasted the Tornados 6-4. In two U-12 boys league games, the Earthquakes beat the Tornados 7-1, while the Wizards edged the Galaxy 4-3. (October 5, 2010, Page 9)

                  OHS bounces back to trounce Wildcats

                  The Oxford Chargers got the bad taste of losing to New Hope out of their mouths Friday night with a 37-13 win over Clarksdale at Bobby Holcomb Field. The win improved the Chargers to 4-2 overall and an even more important 1-1 in Region 1-5A.

                  OHS coach Johnny Hill felt his Chargers played “pretty well” against the Wildcats (3-3, 1-1). (October 4, 2010, Page 4B)

                    Lafayette’s JV runners win cross country titles
