After busy summer, Smith ready to head to Oxford

Barbe (La.) High is becoming quite the pipeline for the Ole Miss baseball team.

In addition to rising junior center fielder Tanner Mathis and 2012 commitment Gavin Cecchini, the most recent standout from Barbe to sign with Ole Miss is Sam Smith, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound right-hander from the Lake Charles-based school. (more…) (July 20, 2011, Page 6A)

    Hawkins ready to lead Rebel linemen

    Running through offensive linemen the way Ole Miss did last season isn’t exactly ideal.

        Mathews seeing renewed camaraderie

        This summer there has been a lot of emphasis put on coming together as a team for the Ole Miss football squad.

        When discussing the pitfalls and woes of last season’s four-win campaign, players bring up a lack of camaraderie and leadership.

        That won’t be the case this season, at least if the players have learned from last year. (July 18, 2011, Page 6)

            Rebel RB downplays time in spotlight

            Over the weekend Ole Miss debuted a football tickets commercial featuring senior running back Brandon Bolden.

            The Nike’esque commercial, which was filmed by Micah Ginn under the direction of Matthew Graves, shows Bolden hard at work in the Mississippi heat on the hot turf of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, preparing for the upcoming season. (more…) (July 15, 2011, Page 6A)

              Davis helps North in All-Star tournament

              Oxford standout tennis player Sterling Davis helped the North girls squad claim a 4-3 victory in Thursday’s Mississippi Association of Coaches All-Star tennis tournament. While Davis lost to Taylor Torrence 6-3, 6-4 in her singles match, she rebounded with the aid of Anna Blair Hunt of Senatobia to knock off Claire Tadlock and Kelsey Tadlock 8-1 in the girls doubles match. Davis was the only area player represented in the tournament. (July 15, 2011, Page 7A)

                Four Rebs named All-SEC by coaches

                BLOG: Earlier today the Southeastern Conference announced its 2011 SEC Coaches Preseason teams. Four Rebels were honored, with LT Bradley Sowell named to the first team, while RT Bobby Massie, DE Kentrell Lockett and P Tyler Campbell were all second-team honorees. (more…) (July 14, 2011)

                  Ford’s athleticsm key for Lady Rebels

                  Quindella Ford doesn’t normally say much to tout her own basketball skills.

                  She doesn’t need to because her actions speak volumes on the hardwood.

                  As a junior at Okolona, the 5-foot-9 guard averaged a healthy 27.8 points per game and is currently in the midst of leading her AAU team, the North Mississippi Basketball Hoop Dreams, through the AAU Division II National Championships at the Disney Wide World of Sports in Kissimmee, Fla.                     Hunter education class offered

                    A hunter education course, sponsored for free by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, will be held at the Harmontown Civic Center on Aug. 20. The center is located on Hwy. 310. The class begins at 8 a.m. The class is needed for all hunters seeking a license that are born after Jan. 1, 1972.
