McCullough, Mills on All-State teams
Successful seasons on the baseball diamond has led to more accolades for a pair of cousins. Lafayette’s Josh Mills and Water Valley’s Walt McCullough were named to Coaches All-State baseball teams on Tuesday.
Mills, who helped lead the Commodores to a 23-7 overall mark in 2011 and the second round of the Class 4A playoffs, was named to the first team in 4A, while McCullough, who helped lead the Blue Devils to an 18-11 mark and a third-round appearance in the 3A playoffs, was also named to the first team in 3A. SEC Baseball Tournament to begin today
Florida has the power. Vanderbilt has the pitching. South Carolina has the swagger. The three teams just finished one of the most entertaining regular-season races in recent Southeastern Conference history, finishing with 22-8 records for a three-way tie. Water Valley’s Phillips in all-star game
Water Valley senior and Mississippi State signee Ashley Phillips has been selected to play in the Northeast Mississippi Coaches Association softball and basketball All-Star games that will be held in June. The softball game will be June 2 at 4:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Tupelo. The basketball game will be held on June 4 at Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville. Water Valley senior Fred McGee will play in next month’s Northeast Mississippi Coaches Basketball Association All-Star game. The contest will be held on June 4 at Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville. McGee is the second Blue Devil chosen for the game joining teammate Matt Dalton on the roster. Brewers get offensive in 13-14 league win
Aundrel Turner collected three hits and three RBIs to help lead the 13-14 year-old Farese Family Dental Brewers to an 18-3 win over the Oxford Eye Clinic Rangers in Oxford Park Commission youth league baseball on Monday night. Moore’s pitching performance lifts OPC team to victory
Aided by Halle Moore’s 2.0 scoreless innings in the pitcher’s circle, Chandler Motor Co. defeated Community Trust Bank 8-3 in the 9-10 year-old Oxford Park Commission softball league at FNC Park on Monday. In the other league game Oxford Power Equipment sneaked past Shiloh Creek 12-11.
Last Thursday, Kaytlon Pegues and Lakerria Holland had big offensive nights to help lift Taco Bell to a 20-7 win over Zaxby’s in the 11-12 league. In the 9-10 league, Community Trust Bank edged Shiloh Creek 10-9. (May 24, 2011, Page 7)
LHS baseball camp in June
Lafayette High baseball coach Greg Lewis and his players will be holding a summer camp June 1-3 at W.V. Brewer Field.
