Registration for the annual Chargers Baseball Camp has begun for area youth to participate in. The camp is open for ages 6-14 and cost for early registration is $100. Registration packets can be picked up at the front office of Oxford High School. The camp will be held at the Oxford Park Commission’s Hank Aaron Triplex June 14-18 from 8 a.m. to noon. OHS baseball players and staff will conduct the camp. Items needed for the camp each day are glove, bat, tennis shoes or cleats, shorts or baseball pants. The best writer in Hollywood couldn’t have penned a better script or a more appropriate ending to how the Oxford Lady Chargers finished out the 2010 MHSAA Class 5A state meet at Pearl High Friday evening.
After years of doing well and consistently finishing in the top five of the team championships, the Lady Chargers finally broke through to win the school’s first team title. Oxford won Friday’s 5A title by totaling 89 points, the most ever in a state meet, and the Lady Chargers did it with a strong showing in field events as well as an inspirational finish in the 4×400 meter relay. On a day where Pearl proved to be too much for any team in the field to defeat as state champions, three individual state titles and a balanced effort that garnered 70 total points and a second-place finish was what the Chargers had to hang their hat on. (May 17, 2010, Page 2B)

Early exposure to track meets and parents with strong track backgrounds, coupled with natural talent, have really proved to be a winning formula for Oxford High track athletes Erika Sisk and Kristen Dickerson this season.
Sisk and Dickerson have played big parts in the success the Lady Chargers have achieved throughout the year and they are two of the main reasons why the team has a chance of capturing the school’s first girls track title on Friday at the MHSAA Class 5A meet in Pearl. (May 13, 2010, Page 1B)

The search for Bradley Roberson’s replacement as Oxford High baseball coach accelerated over the last few days. The job was officially posted on the school’s website, Oxford.k12.ms.us, on Thursday while a survey is available for the public to fill out on what characteristics and qualities they think the new OHS baseball coach should possess. If there was ever a match that showcased Oxford’s versatility and character as a team during their successive championship seasons it was Monday’s 5-2 win over West Jones.

The Oxford Rays won the 2010 Gumtree 14-and-Under AA Classic held at Ballard Park in Tupelo recently. The Rays are a 13-and-Under USSSA team composed of players from the Oxford area.
Oxford rebounded from a 7-2 loss to the Tupelo Rangers in the opener and a 10-0 loss to the Tri County Outlaws to then win three games in a row. Oxford defeated the North Mississippi Angels 9-5, the Outlaws 8-1 and the Rangers 2-1 in the title game in eight innings. (May 11, 2010, Page 10)
Oxford’s dominance on the tennis court continued this morning as the Chargers won their third-straight state championship. The Chargers’ latest victim in a winning streak that has now reached 107 matches was West Jones, which defeated Brookhaven 5-2 in the South Half title match.
Oxford, which won the last two titles in Class 4A, defeated the Mustangs 5-1 in a match that lasted just over an hour at the Ridgeland Tennis Center to claim the Class 5A title. (May 10, 2010, Page 1B)
