Dedication and perseverance proved to be two of the main reasons why Oxford and Lafayette had such successful cross country seasons this fall. In a year where both programs had to rely on underclassmen to not only fill out the roster, but perform at a high level, having nine runners earn the distinction of being All-State was a tremendous achievement.
The Lady Chargers and Lady Commodores each had three runners finish in the top 14 at the state meet held at Choctaw Trails in Clinton on Nov. 6. Earning All-State from Oxford were sophomore Callie Mayo, eighth-grader Emily Hankins and sophomore Audrey Dayan. (December 2, 2010, Page 1B)
A strong first quarter and another team effort helped lift the Oxford Lady Chargers basketball squad to a 67-36 win over Ashland Tuesday night. The Chargers weren’t as fortunate as they as they fell 61-57 to Ashland in the nightcap. (more…) (December 1, 2010, Page 7)

One of the most successful seasons on the gridiron the past few seasons for the Oxford Chargers ended with a disappointing 27-12 loss to the West Point Green Wave in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs Friday night at Bobby Holcomb Field.

Cool, calm and collected. That’s what Oxford senior quarterback Guy Cameron Billups has been this season on the gridiron for the Chargers.
At a program where good passing quarterbacks have been plentiful over the years, Billups has taken aim at all of the school records and not only been able to duplicate the success of a Matt Malouf or Chad Hill or Mike Stark, but surpass all of them in terms of stats. (November 18, 2010, Page 7)
Fans of area high school sports should expect to see some new teams to route against after the Mississippi High School Activities Association officially released the reclassification of schools for the 2011-2013 seasons Wednesday. Classifications are based on the student enrollment of each school that was reported with the State Department of Education Finance and Statistic Division in October.
Lafayette, Oxford and Water Valley all stayed in the same classifications (5A, 4A, 3A), but there were teams that the three schools have been playing that either moved up or down. Lafayette’s enrollment was listed at 690, making it the fifth-biggest school in 4A. Oxford listed an enrollment of 887, a figure that places them in the middle of 5A, while Water Valley has an enrollment of 354, a figure that also places them more in the middle of the 3A field.
