Report: 49ers linebacker Willis making plans to retire

In a surprise move, San Francisco linebacker Patrick Willis is reportedly ready to call it quits. The 49ers are preparing for Willis’ retirement, according to a report by Yahoo! Sports. The report cited a source that said the team is expecting it from the All-Pro after just eight seasons in the NFL. According to, the former Ole Miss standout is planning to make an official announcement today. (March 10, 2015, Page 6)

    Ole Miss guard Moody wins Howell Trophy

    Ole Miss junior guard Stefan Moody won the CSpire Howell Trophy Monday at a luncheon held by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in Jackson. The award is given annually to the state’s best collegiate men’s basketball player. (March 10, 2015, Page 6)

      Ole Miss QB Kelly completes community service

      BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A judge agreed Monday that Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly has met the community service and other conditions of a plea agreement reached after he was arrested for fighting with bouncers outside a Buffalo nightclub. (March 10, 2015, Page 6)

        Former Rebel OL Hall dies

        Whaley Hall, an Ole Miss All-American lineman on three of coach John Vaught’s outstanding Rebel teams, passed away Saturday in Hampton, Virginia, following an extended illness. Arrangements are incomplete. (March 10, 2015, Page 6)

            Hatters use big innings to rout Ole Miss in finale

            With a big week of games coming up for the No. 22 Ole Miss baseball team, the Rebels were looking for momentum heading in. With the chance to earn their first series sweep of the season, the Rebels were unable to as Stetson’s bats came alive and Ole Miss was unable to capitalize on opportunities in a 16-4 loss Sunday afternoon at Oxford-University Stadium. (March 9, 2015, Page 6)

              Projections put Rebels squarely on bubble

              Ole Miss’ men’s basketball team has played its way back on the bubble, according to those that follow the sport religiously. The Rebels continued their late-season swoon with Saturday’s 86-77 loss to Vanderbilt at C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum that really wasn’t that close. Vanderbilt torched Ole Miss from deep (13 of 23 from 3-point range), led by 13 at the half and ran away with it in the second half to hand the Rebels their third loss in four games and their seventh in their own building. (March 9, 2015, Page 6)

                No. 17 Ole Miss sweeps Missouri, 7-0

                In the midst of a four-match homestand, the No. 17 Ole Miss women’s tennis team posted its second consecutive sweep, dominating Missouri 7-0 here Sunday at the Gillom Sports Center. With the win, the Rebels improved to 10-3 overall and 2-2 in the SEC. Missouri fell to 8-7 overall and 0-4 in conference. (March 9, 2015, Page 7)
