A lot on line for Rebels in series with AU Tigers
So it all comes down to this.
The No. 17 Ole Miss Rebel baseball team has a lot at stake this weekend.
Not only would a successful series against No. 16 Auburn (36-17 overall, 17-10 in the Southeastern Conference) help the Rebels (36-17, 16-11) earn at least a piece of the SEC’s Western Division title, but it would also help their chances of hosting an NCAA Tournament Regional for the second straight year. That, in essence, was Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco’s message to his team before it took batting practice on Monday at Oxford-University Stadium.

Rebels add Short, announce Riley’s departure
The Ole Miss men’s basketball team added another piece to its 2010-11 roster with the signing of 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward Steadman Short from Chipola College (Marianna, Fla.), head coach Andy Kennedy announced Monday.
The frontcourt addition is a rising junior with two years of eligibility left after he spent his sophomore season at Chipola and his freshman year at High Point University (High Point, N.C.). (May 18, 2010, Page 10)
Abram’s autopsy released
A coroner says complications of sickle cell trait caused the death of Bennie F. Abram, a Ole Miss football player who collapsed during a Feb. 19 workout.
Officials released the autopsy results Monday for Abram, a 20-year-old junior from Southaven.
Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy said the official cause of death was the sickle cell trait associated with exertion.
Kennedy said a contributing factor was that Abram had an enlarged heart.
Kennedy said a person with sickle cell trait inherits one gene for sickle hemoglobin and one for normal hemoglobin. The condition can be asymptomatic. However, Kennedy said Abram knew he had sickle cell trait. (May 18, 2010, Page 10)
Kilcrease, Nelson silence Rebel bats
The Southeastern Conference’s Western Division leader board isn’t any clearer after a weekend that saw No. 15 Ole Miss drop two of three games to Alabama at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
After the Rebels overcame a slew of walks and errors to claim a 5-4 win on Friday, they fell to the Crimson Tide in a 4-1 loss on Saturday and a 6-3 loss on Sunday.
As a result, Ole Miss (36-17 overall, 16-11 in the Southeastern Conference) will head into its final weekend series one game behind Auburn — which took two of three from Tennessee this weekend — for the top spot in the SEC West, and tied with Arkansas, who was swept by South Carolina.
