Rebels rebound to top ASU in opener
Chris Warren scored 20 of his game-high 26 points in the second half to lead Ole Miss to a come-from-behind 68-60 victory over Arkansas State in Friday’s season opener.
Warren’s 3-pointer from the top of the key with 4:30 left gave Ole Miss a 58-50 advantage — the Rebels’ largest lead of the game until his dunk in the final second. (November 15, 2010, Page 6B)
Lady Rebs rally to top SHSU
After playing a back and forth first half, the Ole Miss Lady Rebels basketball team was able to turn it around in the second half to claim a 69-60 victory over Sam Houston State University in the championship game of The Inn at Ole Miss Classic. (more…) (November 13, 2010)
Lady Rebs hold on to top JSU
About the only thing Ole Miss head coach Renee Ladner was pleased with in the Lady Rebels’ 69-64 win over Jackson State on Friday was the fact her team came out ahead. (more…) (November 12, 2010)
UT not volunteering Rebels an easy win
Ole Miss’ drive to make a bowl game after its subpar start to the year continues Saturday with a road trip to Knoxville, Tenn., to play the unranked Tennessee Volunteers.
The Rebels (4-5 overall, 1-4 in the Southeastern Conference) started November strong with a much needed 43-21 win over Louisiana-Lafayette last Saturday and the players are looking to build on that success against a Tennessee team that is just 3-6 and 0-5 in the league. (November 12, 2010, Page 6A)
Rebs open season tonight vs. ASU
A familiar team with a familiar coach will be the Ole Miss Rebels’ opponent in the first game of the season tonight at C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum.
Arkansas State, led by former LSU head man John Brady, will try to make things difficult on coach Andy Kennedy and his Rebels. Tipoff for the non conference game is set for 7 and the game can be heard locally on 93.7 FM.
Tonight’s game is the third in a series that started when Brady was first hired at ASU. Kennedy has won the first two that have been played at alternating sites and the goal is to make it a clean sweep. (November 12, 2010, Page 7A)
Basketball Practice Facility well worth the wait
During the summer, it wasn’t rare for Ole Miss women’s basketball coach to come into her office and see the picture frames on her wall hanging every which way but straight. (more…) (November 12, 2010, Page 7A)
OM looking for experience in a hurry
When the Ole Miss Lady Rebels take to the hardwood at C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum tomorrow to open their 2010 season, head coach Renee Ladner would like for her young squad to be playing like veterans.
While on paper the Lady Rebels’ roster is dominated by inexperience, Ladner is hoping the team’s exhibition game against West Georgia, their scrimmage against Tulane and full-throttle practices in which she’s thrown the freshmen into the fire, will pay off. (November 11, 2010, Page 7)
Area players needed at NWCC
AROUND THE SQUARE AND BEYOND: Northwest Mississippi Community College football coach Ricky Woods wants to win an MACJC state title in the worst way, but he needs the help of area players, and district players, to help him do it. The Rangers finished the 2010 season with a 9-1 overall mark, but a 52-24 loss to Gulf Coast last Saturday at Bobby Franklin Field was not the ending Woods was hoping for. UT matchup special to Shackelford
When Ole Miss and Tennessee face off on Saturday at Neyland Stadium, it won’t be exactly how D.T. Shackelford would have imagined it over three years ago: Instead of running on to the field in Knoxville, Tenn., wearing the home orange and white, Shackelford will be jogging out of the visitor’s locker room.
Born a Tennessee fan — for what he admits is an unknown reason — in the state of Alabama, Shackelford dreamed of playing for former Vols coach Phil Fulmer. (November 10, 2010, Page 8)
Masoli back at practice, status still in question
Jeremiah Masoli’s status as the starting quarterback when the Ole Miss Rebels travel to play the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville, Tenn., this weekend is still up in the air. Masoli is being evaluated and treated from a concussion he suffered in the Rebels’ 43-21 win over Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday. Masoli was knocked out of the game in the first quarter and did not return.
He missed practice Sunday, and after an off day on Monday, he was back at practice Tuesday, although his work was limited according to head football trainer Tim Mullins and coach Houston Nutt. (November 10, 2010, Page 8)
